Safety Corner
This edition of Safety Corner focuses on the extreme heat that we experience in the Metro area during the summer. A heat wave is a prolonged period of excessive heat, 10 degrees or more above the average, often combined with excessive humidity. During a heatwave, dress in light (both weight and color) loose-fitting clothing that allows air to circulate. When working outside in the heat, one should be familiar with the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, as well as be able to determine if it is a medical emergency. Heat can go beyond uncomfortable; it can sometimes be dangerous. Use the buddy system when working in excessive heat. Take breaks in the shade and drink plenty of water to replace the water your body is losing by perspiring.
