Newsletter Spring 2024

Welcome to our Spring 2024 newsletter where we can recap some of the highlights of the 1st Quarter of 2024!

Check out some of the fun Spring projects at our facilities!

Green Village FRC Tom lead his team in the creation of 24 painted bird houses to welcome in spring! Therapists and patients had fun making the colorful task therapeutic. This was a great housing project for our feathered friends!

Shady Lawn FRC Sara helped her team and residents make and package home made treats for cats AND dogs! SLP Beth said the cats gave a mixed review of their treats but the dogs all gave them a "paws-up"!

White Oak Manor FRC Bethany was the master-mind behind our spring event. She enabled patients to start an herb garden to welcome spring. Her enthusiasm and commitment to the residents at White Oak has had a significant impact!

Springing Ahead at The Northridge!

Led by student SLP Maddie, residents and staff created colorful paper spring flowers to welcome in the season! Plus, even on rainy spring days, cheerful blooms will still be seen! Thank you Team Northridge!

Facility Highlight

White Oak Manor

This small facility on Warren Ohio is positioning for growth! They have recently remodeled 14 rooms to welcome more rehab candidates from the community. FRC Bethany (see above article) is ready to support this growth. She has brought numerous staff members on board and has updated the department as well! We look forward to this new chapter at White Oak Manor!

Employee Highlights

Be sure to share your own or your colleague's good news, special skills and don't forget to send along your patient success stories! We know our talented therapists are always up to good things- let us know!

Exciting Times

At Andover Village!

Andover's OT Adriana welcomed baby Charlotte on March 12th! Soon Andover's PTA Daryl will be welcoming her new little one as well! It is said the littlest of feet make the biggest footprint in our hearts. Enjoy the adventure Adriana and Daryl! Congratulations!

Avon's PT & FRC Kim

Kim has worked for Arbor Rehab for over 20 years! From PTA and now as a DPT, she has led her therapy teams with true dedication and love for her department, residents and profession. She gives 100% to everything she does and there has never been a task too big for Kim. She and her team mates are developing the new shining star dementia program and seeing success with their outpatient program as well!

Emily at Green Village

PTA Emily at Green Village is an outstanding team player! She is one of our most flexible employees and Arbor truly appreciates her adaptability. Emily goes with the flow as she helps to cover multiple sites when necessary. Emily, Arbor sees your hard work and appreciates all you do!

Regulatory Updates

Reimbursement

The Physician's Fee Screen determines our reimbursement per CPT code. Effective January 01, 2024, the fee screen was cut by 3.37%. This cut impacted a portion of the formula that determines the worth of each code. Then on March 9, President Biden signed the Provider Relief Fund which offset this cut by 1.68%. So after March 9, the cut to a portion of our reimbursement was 1.69%. While this may not sound like much, add to it the Multiple Procedure Payment Reduction, the 15% cut to reimbursement to treatment provided by therapy assistants and yearly cuts to the Physician's Fee Screen, you can see that reimbursement in our sector of health care is continually reduced. Fortunately several organizations are advocating on our behalf to minimize reductions and maximize opportunities for quality patient care.

Enhanced Barrier Precautions

Starting April 1, 2024, it's no joke that infection prevention will take another step forward! According to CMS Memorandum QSO-24-08-NH, state surveyors will soon be considering F Tag F880 ( infection control) with regards to EBP or Enhanced Barrier Precautions. This memo states that those with a multidrug - resistant organism (MDRO) may need to follow EBP guidelines. This includes those with infection or colonization with a CDC-targeted MDRO when Contact Precautions do not apply. EBPs may also apply when a resident has chronic wounds or indwelling medical devices even if they are not known to have an MDRO.

EBP require gloves and gowns to be worn for high contact resident care activities including many ADLs. Please see our Rehab Resource for more details.
