St. Gabriel School Gazette

Hello St. Gabriel Families,

Check out the following headlines and links to stay up to date on everything happening at St. Gabriel Parish School.

Update on Mr. Fassbender:

We are happy to share that Mr. Fassbender is now recovering at home.  Each day is a little better than the one before.  It will be a long road to complete recovery but he is surrounded by family and is doing well.  The family thanks everyone for their prayers and well wishes.  All the extra prayers and support have helped them get through this difficult time.

Mrs. Fassbender will continue to care for her husband during this time and will be in and out of the office. So when you call the office, you may still hear someone different answering the phone.  We will have someone checking her email on a regular basis so please continue to send all office communications to [email protected].

Catholic Schools Week:

The students and staff have been celebrating Catholic Schools Week.  We’ve had a crazy mismatch day, favorite team day and today is career day.  We have participated in activities such as making cards for the homeless to go with the care packages that will be assembled at our next spirit group meeting, a special reception after mass for first responders and veterans, and of course Fun Day.  Today our students are learning about different careers.  Tomorrow is pajama/comfy clothes day.  The students will be enjoying a movie of their choice and some popcorn in the afternoon.

Immunization Requirement Changes:

We were just sent information regarding changes to the immunization requirements for students from Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services. These changes will go into effect for the 2023-2024 school year. Please review the linked document and consult with your child’s physician so that they are ready to begin the school year next fall.

Many of our students have been able to complete their MAP tests since the last scores were posted so we would like to share the updated information.

2023-2024 School Registration is Now Open:

Thank you for choosing St. Gabriel for your child/ren’s education. Please see the following links for information about the 2023-2024 school year and to register your students. Remember there is an early bird registration discount of $200 for each family that registers before March 31. Early registration helps us plan in advance for the upcoming school year.

Gym Shoes:

Please make sure that your child/ren has gym shoes to wear on gym days. These should not be the shoes that they are wearing outside for recess. We do not want salt tracked in from outside ruining our gym floor.

After-School Care:

If you are in need of after-school care for your child, please remember to complete the February calendar.

In order to be able to provide adequate supervision we ask that parents sign their children up at least one day in advance. Any changes should be reported to the office that morning. Due to staffing requirements, we may not be able to accommodate last-minute requests. If your child is not on the after-school care list they should not be staying after school! Supervision is required for any student in the building after hours.

$crip certificates are the perfect gift ideas for birthdays, anniversaries, and thank yous. $crip is available in the School Office Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., after the weekend Masses, or online. If interested in learning more about buying certificates online, please contact Laura Rogacki in the Parish Office (262-628-1141).

School Garden Project - Volunteers Needed:

I know it sounds crazy, but we are starting to think about spring planting in our St. Gabriel Gardens! Mr. Thuecks, our 5th-grade teacher, would like to get volunteers who are interested in helping our gardens grow at the school and parish grounds. Some ideas that are being planned are a vegetable garden that the kids plant, a butterfly garden, Monarch Butterfly Project, an outside learning space, an updated walking path, tree planting, kids planting their own pumpkins, and a living rosary with flowers. If you have a green thumb or think you could be a resource to help us with donations, please complete THIS FORM as soon as possible. Mr. Thuecks would like to begin meeting on a regular basis starting in January to make sure things are ready to go by May.

"Thank you for your consideration!"  - Mr. Thuecks

Scouts at St. Gabriel

On February 12 at the 10:30 AM Mass, we will celebrate the founding of the Boy Scouts of America (founded February 8, 1910) at the annual "Scout Sunday" Mass.

St. Gabriel's offers a Scout program for youth ages 6—17. You do not need to be a Parish member or attend St. Gabriel School to belong to the St. Gabriel Scouting program.

  • Cub Scouting is available for youth in 1st -5th grade. Cub Scout "Pack" meetings are held once a month, and there is generally a Pack activity once a month as well. Cub Scouts conduct a campout on the nearby Daniel Boone Conservation League grounds in early June, and participate in activities at Camp Long Lake. On a worldly level, in 2022 the Cub Scouts packaged & shipped 41 care packages to WI Army National Guard troops deployed in Djibouti, Africa.

  • The Boy Scout program is available to youth ages 11-17. The program achieves the Boy Scouts of America objectives of developing character, citizenship, personal fitness, and fun! Activities include camping, hiking trips, whitewater rafting, biking trips, and participation in service projects. Boy Scout Troop 139 attends Summer Camp annually at various Scout Camp locations throughout the state, most recently Camp Long Lake east of Fond du Lac, and Camp Tesomas near Rhinelander. With the generous support from St. Gabriel Parish members and local businesses, we were able to purchase a new Troop trailer and trailer graphics in spring 2022!

We welcome all youth to join Scouting at St. Gabriel's. Please get in touch with one of our Scout leaders to find out when the next Scout meeting will be or for more information.

Contact Pack Cubmaster, Collin McChesney at [email protected] or Troop Assistant Scoutmaster, Chad Gettleman at [email protected].

Thank you.
