St. Gabriel School Gazette

Hello St. Gabriel Families,

Check out the following headlines and links to stay up to date on everything happening at St. Gabriel Parish School.

Asking for Prayers:

As many of you may already know, Mrs. Fassbender’s husband, John, was involved in a car accident last Friday afternoon. He is currently in the hospital and has a long road to recovery ahead of him. Please include him and their family in your prayers.

Mrs. Fassbender will be taking care of her husband during this time and will be in and out of the office. So when you call the office, you may hear someone different answering the phone. We will have someone checking her email on a regular basis so please continue to send office communications to [email protected].

Retirement Announcement:

It is with mixed emotions that we announce the retirement of Mrs. Pam Merkel. Mrs. Merkel will be retiring after the end of this school year. While we are excited for her to be able to enjoy retirement and spend more time with her family, we will miss her tremendously. Thank you, Mrs. Merkel, for your 16 years of service to St. Gabriel Parish School!

MAP Test Scores:

We are thrilled to share our 2023 winter Maps test score averages. These scores reflect the percentage of students who are at or above grade-level expectations.

MATH = 80% - READING = 88% - LANGUAGE = 93%

Gym Shoes:

Please make sure that your child/ren has gym shoes to wear on gym days. These should not be the shoes that they are wearing outside for recess. We do not want salt tracked in from outside ruining our gym floor.

Car-Line:

Just a couple of reminders regarding drop-off/pick-up:

  1. Please remember to have your sign (family name) visible in the windshield so that we may have students ready when you pull up to the doors.
  2. Please have your children exit from the passenger side of the vehicle in order to avoid the cars that are coming to park in the lot.
  3. Please do not get out of your vehicle. We have staff members outside ready to help students who need assistance getting out of the car.

We need everyone's cooperation in order to keep the car line moving in the safest and most efficient manner possible.

Thank You

After-School Care:

If you are in need of after-school care for your child, please remember to complete the February calendar.

In order to be able to provide adequate supervision we ask that parents sign their children up at least one day in advance. Any changes should be reported to the office that morning. Due to staffing requirements, we may not be able to accommodate last-minute requests. If your child is not on the after-school care list they should not be staying after school! Supervision is required for any student in the building after hours.

School Garden Project - Volunteers Needed:

I know it sounds crazy, but we are starting to think about spring planting in our St. Gabriel Gardens! Mr. Thuecks, our 5th-grade teacher, would like to get volunteers who are interested in helping our gardens grow at the school and parish grounds. Some ideas that are being planned are a vegetable garden that the kids plant, a butterfly garden, Monarch Butterfly Project, an outside learning space, an updated walking path, tree planting, kids planting their own pumpkins, and a living rosary with flowers. If you have a green thumb or think you could be a resource to help us with donations, please complete THIS FORM as soon as possible. Mr. Thuecks would like to begin meeting on a regular basis starting in January to make sure things are ready to go by May.

"Thank you for your consideration!"  - Mr. Thuecks
