Hello St. Gabriel Families,

Check out the following headlines and links to stay up to date on everything happening at St. Gabriel Parish School. The headlines that are highlighted are NEW to this Gazette.

We hope that all of our families have a very safe, restful, and enjoyable summer.  We look forward to seeing everyone back at school in August.

Meet Our New Middle School ELA Teacher:

Mrs. Karen Jungwirth

I come to St. Gabriel with 16 years of teaching experience and am licensed in secondary education and English. A Catholic education is important to me and I am blessed to have spent much of my teaching career in a Catholic school. I have always loved reading and writing, and sharing this passion with others is what led me into teaching. My expertise is in middle school ELA and ninth-grade literature, and I also have a background in composition and creative writing. I am so excited to join the St. Gabriel family and look forward to meeting all of you in the fall!

Catholic Social Responsibility:

In response to the social issues that have arisen in our communities and schools, the Archdiocese of Milwaukee has developed a Catholic Social Responsibility Guidebook for all of the Catholic schools in our 10-county Archdiocese in southeastern Wisconsin.  The following information has been posted on the Archdiocese of Milwaukee website.  Please use the links below to watch the video from Archbishop Listecki and review the guidebook in order to understand how we are and will respond to these issues in our school.

The concept of Catholic Social Responsibility is not new. In fact, rooted in Scripture, and the teachings of the Church, it has always been an important focus of our Catholic school curriculum and programming. What’s new about this approach is that our school leaders have organized a framework to ensure that Catholic Social Teachings are integrated into every aspect of school life.

The guidebook provides direction for students in responding to such societal issues as:

  • Culture
  • Economics
  • Racism and
  • Civic Participation for the Common Good

It is very important, especially now, to reinforce the most fundamental aspect of Catholic Social Teaching — the dignity of the human person. Because every individual is made in the image and likeness of God, we follow the two great commandments — love God and love your neighbor.

Committee Members Needed for Next Year:

With the end of the school year here, there are a few committee members who are reaching the end of their term as well. We are currently looking to fill some positions on our School Advisory Commission for the next school year. The committee meets once a month (usually virtually) and helps our school grow and maintain the programs and events that we currently offer. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact the school office at 628-1711.

Book Fair Chairperson URGENTLY Needed OR the Fair will go away:

This year's May Scholastic Book Fair will be the last one that our volunteer librarian, Katie Martinez, will chair. The Scholastic Book Fair is the primary source of funds that supply reading materials to our library. Chairing a book fair is not very difficult, and not even too time-consuming, especially if two or more people collaborate on running it. It has been traditionally run by school parents. Katie Martinez will still help out as a volunteer for the book fair and will be available to answer any questions that come up. Please help us keep this much-loved and valuable resource for our school and library! If you are interested or would like to know more, please contact the school office at 628-1711. Thank You

$crip Certificates:

$crip certificates are the perfect gift ideas for graduations, birthdays, anniversaries, and thank yous. $crip is available in the School Office Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until 2:30 pm, after the weekend Masses, or online. Interested in learning more about buying online certificates using the RAISE RIGHT app? Please contact Laura Rogacki in the Parish Office (262-628-1141) for the program code.  During the summer months when school is not in session, you can still purchase your certificates after the weekend Masses or online.

Tuition Reducing Programs:

Are you interested in lowering your child’s tuition for the 2023/2024 school year? Here are some ways to do just that…

  • Refer a family (who enrolls) and receive $500 off the total tuition
  • Use $crip and receive 50% profit towards tuition - credits given monthly
  • Commit one day a week for the ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR as a playground/lunch aide and receive $500 off per "committed day" (sign-up is in August for the upcoming school year and is FIRST COME FIRST SERVE)

FROM THE PARISH BUSINESS OFFICE

Tuition Statements:

If you have not yet done so, please make arrangements for your final tuition payments related to the 2022-23 school year. We are looking for all of our returning families to have a -$200 balance on your tuition statement to reflect the payment of your 2023-24 registration fee.

Please watch for 2 emails: Beginning of June for your final 2022-23 tuition statement; and Mid-July for your 2023-24 tuition statements.

After-School Learning Program:

Negative balances on the ASLP statements reflect overpayments that carry over to the 2023-24 school year. Positive balances are overdue to St. Gabriel as this is a “Pay In Advance” program. Please make these payments as soon as possible, we accept cash or check at the school office, or credit card payments on our school website. If you require financial aid for a positive balance, or if you would like your negative balance moved to your tuition account, please email Mrs. Rogacki or Mrs. Meyers in the parish office ([email protected] or [email protected]).

Hot Lunch Program:

Please remember that the Hot Lunch Program is a “Pay In Advance” program. Please review the hot lunch calendar with your students and make your last payments to the Hot Lunch Program to include your lunches through the end of the school year. Any negative balance should be paid in full by the end of the school year. Any positive balance will carry over to the 2023-24 school year.   If you are leaving our school and would like your balance refunded to you, please email Mrs. Weyer, [email protected] … Thank You

SCHOOL & PARISH EVENTS

HAWKS LOGO.png

FROM THE HAWKS NEST!

by Athletic Director, Jeff Poff

School: 262-628-1711

Direct: 414-750-6966

Athletics has two open roles for 2023-2024 school year:

Treasurer

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Track income and expenses for Athletics
  • Communicate with the Parish Office for monthly activity
  • Deposit/Withdraw Funds when needed before/after events
  • Ideal role for someone who is detail-oriented, and good with finances and communication. This is also a great role for someone that is looking to get involved but has limited availability as all the work necessary to be successful can be done at any time of day/week.

Game Day Fundraising Manager

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manage our concession stand during home events
  • Purchasing and maintaining the stock of supplies
  • Managing cash for the admissions table and concession stand during events.
  • Ideal role is for someone who enjoys deal shopping and entertaining guests with an array of options.

Both open roles are integral to the success and financial well-being of the Athletics Department. They are also both supported by all members of the Athletics Committee. Athletics has only one meeting per year so the commitment for these roles is strictly during on-premise athletic events, approximately 6-12 per school year.

The Athletics Committee:

Athletic Director - Jeff Poff

Treasurer - OPEN

Game Day Fundraising Manager - OPEN

Volleyball Coordinator - Peggy Senglaub

Basketball Coordinator - Bill Hartzel

FALL VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE

I know it seems early to be talking about the fall volleyball season but the deadline for registration will be here before you know it. We are looking for all St. Gabriel school and religious education 5th-8th graders who are looking to have fun learning a sport that they can play the rest of their life!

St. Gabriel belongs to the Metro Volleyball Conference; please click on http://www.metrovbconference.org/ if you would like to learn more about it.

Here are the key highlights:

  • Girls & Boys 5th-8th grade team registrations are due to the MVC by July 31st
  • Practices can begin on August 14th
  • League games (10 matches):
  • Boys games will be held on Friday nights, September 9 – November 3 (no match on October 27)
  • Girls games will be held on Saturday mornings or afternoons (not evenings) September 10 – October 28.
  • Invite-only Seton tournament for 8th grade teams: pool play: October 23–27 with the final four held November 4-5.
  • The volleyball registration fee is $75 per student (checks made payable to St. Gabriel)
  • Every player will receive a personalized St. Gabriel Hawks warm-up shirt if paid registration is received by June 23rd.
  • Please plan to attend a short parents meeting on Sunday, July 17th at 5:30 in the school hall.

We would love to field as many girls and boys volleyball teams as possible for the fall. That being said and sharing the timeline above, we would need your final RSVP decision by June 23rd

Please email me at [email protected] if you have any questions.
