Hello St. Gabriel Families,

Check out the following headlines and links to stay up to date on everything that is happening at St. Gabriel Parish School.

Advent Prayer Service:

Since we began celebrating Advent this past Sunday, our students began our Advent celebration in school this week. Each Monday morning during Advent, our students will meet in the gym for a short prayer service and the lighting of a candle on our living wreath.

After the prayer service, each class goes back to their classroom and lights the candle on their wreath that was made during our spirit groups last week.

Please join us in preparing our hearts for the coming of Jesus this Advent season. Set up an Advent wreath in your home, and gather as a family each week to say a prayer and light a candle.

Warm Welcome:

Help us welcome Ryan Harnett and his parents, Mike and Oonagh, to our St. Gabriel school family. Ryan joined our fifth-grade class yesterday. Mr. Thuecks and our fifth-grade students have been helping him transition into his new school/classroom. Please join us in welcoming them if you see them at school, at Mass, or at any of our school events.

Report Cards:

The end of the trimester was Tuesday, November 22nd. Report cards have been finalized and were sent home Tuesday afternoon (November 29th). If your child was not in school Tuesday, their report card can be picked up in the office on any day that school is in session. Please look over the report card with your child(ren), sign the envelope, and return it to your child’s classroom teacher.

School Garden Project - Volunteers Needed:

I know it sounds crazy, but we are starting to think about spring planting in our St. Gabriel Gardens! Mr. Thuecks, our 5th-grade teacher, would like to get volunteers who are interested in helping our gardens grow at the school and parish grounds. Some ideas that are being planned are a vegetable garden that the kids plant, a butterfly garden, Monarch Butterfly Project, an outside learning space, an updated walking path, tree planting, kids planting their own pumpkins, and a living rosary with flowers. If you have a green thumb or think you could be a resource to help us with donations, please complete THIS FORM as soon as possible. Mr. Thuecks would like to begin meeting on a regular basis starting in January to make sure things are ready to go by May.

"Thank you for your consideration!"  - Mr. Thuecks

Thanksgiving Food Drive:

We collected a total of 453 items of non-perishable food items for the St. Boniface/St. Gabriel food pantry last week. Thank you to everyone who helped us feed the less fortunate families in our area.

The following is a message that we received from Ron Weis, one of the workers at the food pantry.

"A very special thank you to you and the children at St Gabriel for contributing so generously to the food pantry. It is greatly appreciated and will be a blessing to many.

Thank you again and Happy Thanksgiving!"

So far we have raised an 🎉 amazing $16,145🎉. You can still help us raise money for our school. Our website will be open through the end of the calendar year. Please visit our St. Gabriel Team Page to make a donation.

Winter Weather Reminders:

We all knew that the time would eventually come when we would have to talk about the cold temperatures and snow. That time is upon us. The snow is beautiful but it comes with some additional safety precautions. Here are a few reminders about our winter weather protocols.

  1. Please make sure that your children come prepared to go outside for recess each day during winter. They will need boots, hats, and mittens. If the temperature, including the wind chill, is below 10 degrees, recess will be indoors.
  2. Please remind your children that playing and building in the snow at school is ok, however, they cannot throw snow. Unfortunately, for safety reasons, snowball fights will need to be saved for home.
  3. If we need to close school due to inclement weather, a notification will be sent to parents via email and text. The notification will also be posted on our website and Facebook page. In addition, we will report our school closing on WISN 12, and FOX 6.

Free/Reduced Lunch Applications:

Saint Gabriel Families may qualify for free or reduced lunch. You may fill out the application at any time throughout the school year. Once approved your family will be notified. Please go to St. Gabriel School Nutrition Program Lunch page on our website for more information.

Please plan ahead for holiday orders. We will place orders on Monday, December 5, 12, and 19. Some cards might be back ordered and we cannot guarantee delivery before the holidays.
