SMART Girls Program Gives Girls Ages 8-18 Confidence
This month in our Griset Clubhouse in Encinitas, teen SMART Girls mentored the younger girls creating a big-sister, little-sister chemistry. As pairs, the older group helped the younger ones find new, empowering words to describe themselves.
After the positive reflection exercise, the group separated to individually reflect and compose a poem, saying, drawing, or self-portrait.

Programming Robots To Move With STEM
This month our La Colonia Robotics Club members constructed attachments to give their robot newfound mobility. They created a claw that enables the robot to pick up and manipulate objects around the room with ease.
The robotics program run by STEM2Leaf Robotics has given students a valuable opportunity to learn about engineering and programming, all while having fun and working together as a team.

Volunteer Role(s):
STEM2Leaf Volunteer Since 2017 travelling to all 7 of our after school program sites.
"It’s important to me that all youth in our community have the opportunity from a young age to explore science and technology in a way that’s both engaging and empowering, beyond the classroom setting. I have found that STEM materials are often expensive and inaccessible to some in our community. That’s why I volunteer at BGC because it matters to me that our youth get exposed to key engineering and programming skills that will set them on the path where a career in science and technology can be a viable option."
