As we have been observing the changes in our overnight shelter demographic, the average age of the population has increased, along with a large increase in the need of oxygen and other health issues among our guests. These factors make accessing a traditional top-bunk much more difficult than it used to be, which was impacting the capacity of individuals we could serve. Read more.

In this month’s Volunteer Spotlight, we’re thrilled to highlight the dedicated team from Redeemer Anglican Church, whose unwavering commitment has made a significant impact at Abba’s House. Every Tuesday night, this remarkable group of individuals selflessly serves in Abba’s House babysitting the kids while the moms go to Celebrate Recovery. They also step into our kitchen, bringing warmth, nourishment, and fellowship to those we serve once a month. Their dedication extends beyond the kitchen, as they also lead a monthly chapel service, offering Christ-centered support and guidance. Their contributions embody the spirit of community and compassion, enriching the lives of everyone at Abba’s House. We’re deeply grateful for the Redeemer Anglican Church volunteers, whose generosity of spirit and time exemplifies the love and care at the heart of our mission. Thank you, Redeemer Anglican Church team, for being such an integral part of our community and for all you do to make a difference in the lives of those we serve.

On Saturday, March 30, 2024, Pole Creek Baptist Church in Candler, NC, will host its 13th annual Carry Your Cross 5K—a unique event that invites participants to physically carry a 4ft length of 2x4 lumber across their backs for the final uphill stretch of the race. This Easter weekend tradition challenges Christians to deeply connect with the significance of Easter and serves as a powerful outreach to share the Gospel within our community. Each year, this event raises funds for mission efforts both locally and internationally through the net proceeds. This year, Pole Creek Baptist Church will dedicate the proceeds to Western Carolina Rescue Ministries, supporting Abba’s House. Abba’s House was created to help mothers and their infants obtain the recovery they need from addiction. This free 6-Month residential program with an optional 6 months transitional stay is designed to equip mothers with the tools they need to maintain a substance abuse free life, all in the name of Jesus.  Sign up for the race here.
