2021 Spring Update

2021 Graduates

Seven students graduated from the program this spring--a foundation record! Collectively, they have accumulated nearly $32,000 in their long-term savings during their time in the program! What an accomplishment! Read about their reflections on the time in the program and future plans.

Job Students Have Talent!

In May we held a Talent Show! Our students shared their talents including music, dance, fashion, art and more! The Electric Park Ballroom was filled with community and love for the students and families we serve. Check out the Talent Show highlights in the video!

Help us finish strong

As the school year and our fiscal year comes to a close, we are celebrating a year where so much was re-imagined. To say we are proud of the students in our program would be an understatement. We saw grades and program participation dramatically increase in the second semester--Job students finished strong!

We are now looking ahead. In the next school year, our goal is to enroll 20 additional students. We are expanding our program to students at any Waterloo Elementary school. This expansion allows us to reach more low-income students and continue to break down the walls of the poverty cycle.

Individual donations from people like you helps fund the important education, asset building and community aspects of our program. We are this close to exceeding our fundraising goals for FY 20-21. The Job Foundation Scholarship Awarded to Graduate

In 2019, long-time program supporters, Dave and Jeanne Allbaugh, created The Job Foundation Scholarship to support program graduates at Hawkeye Community College, Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa. The Allbaughs understand that access to higher education is one way to advance economically and break the cycle of generational poverty.

2021 graduate, Develle (DJ) Rambus, has been awarded The Job Foundation ISU Scholarship! After completing a summer internship at John Deere, DJ will attend Iowa State and study engineering.

DJ is pictured with his mother, Dee, and brother, DeJuan. DeJuan is also a Job Foundation student.

“I first met DJ Rambus when he entered 6^th grade and The Job Foundation Middle School Program. He impressed me with his intelligence and initiative as I worked with him for three years to improve his financial literacy. In June 2021, he graduated high school and was accepted at Iowa State University, my alma mater. The Job Foundation Scholarship will now support his continued efforts to build a career, as it is with two other TJF graduates enrolled at ISU, Dominiqua Watts and Tyrese Phillip. Join Us for Fun in the Sun!

Our annual Nature Day event is right around the corner. Join us at George Wyth State Park on June 25 from 4-7 pm for canoeing, fishing, swimming and fun. For many students in the program, this is their first experience fishing, swimming in a lake or riding in a boat. Email Dorothy if you are able to lend a helping hand at this fun outing!
