Broad Art Museum is hiring a communications manager. This role will d efine and implement the Broad Art Museum's communications strategy to increase public awareness and promote the programs and activities of the museum through a variety of worldwide media outreach activities, among other duties.

Conferences, Classes and Creative Opportunities

Join the Arts Council for their next smARTS workshop on Oct. 24! Piper & Gold Public Relations is sharing key components of storytelling. In today's digital driven world, we are constantly being inundated with messages. It is important to stay true to who you are and ensure that your story comes across in a meaningful way. In this workshop, they will be taking a deeper dive into your story and assist you with creating a narrative that is true to you but also can also effectively resonate with your audience. 

Ixion Ensemble is seeking short plays around the theme "Hope." Whether it's finding it, losing it or maintaining it, they want to see your stories. Whatever hope (or lack thereof) means to you, they look forward to any genre of its exploration. They will select up to eight scripts for further development, including staged readings and possibly full production in May 2019. Digital submissions only to be emailed directly to Ixion Ensemble.

Attracting new audiences, retaining existing audiences, and staying connected with communities are some of the most difficult work undertaken by artists and arts organizations. Join Arts Midwest for new insights, tools, and real-time examples that can help you craft new messages and experiences that increase participation and engagement in your organization. This Creating Connection workshop will take place Oct. 12 at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.

The Arts Council partners annually with Adams Outdoor Advertising for its Art in the Sky program. Through this juried art program, billboards are produced featuring the art of area artists. This collective art installation is a well-recognized aspect of our region's landscape and is celebrated by residents and visitors alike. The billboards are placed in locations throughout Greater Lansing and then are periodically moved to different locations outside the area to attract  visitors to the region. Deadline to apply is Sept. 24.

Peppermint Creek Theatre Company is looking to fill out their cast for "The Wild Party."  This darkly brilliant musical by Andrew Lippa is based on Mancure March's 1928 narrative poem and features Queen and Burr's "party to end all parties" complete with decadence, jealousy and rage - a steamy prohibition tale directed by Ben Cassidy with music by John Dale Smith and choreography by Karyn Perry. Those interested can e-mail director Ben Cassidy directly.

Nominate a fellow Artist or Arts Advocate for an Applause Award! The aim of the Arts Council of Greater Lansing's Applause Awards is to recognize individuals, businesses, organizations and other advocates who have made significant contributions to the arts in the capital region through their leadership, commitment, vision and support.  All awards nominations are due by Oct. 15. Awards will be presented at the Arts Council's Holiday Glitter & Applause Awards on Dec. 4.

Her Flag: 
Call for Entry
If you are a female artist living in one of 36 states on the tour, consider being a part of history. Consider being a part of Her Flag.

Her Flag is seeking 36 female/self-identifying collaborators in 36 states to help with the creation of a printed flag to celebrate the anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment that gave women the right to vote. The participating artists will represent each of the 36 states that helped pass the 19th Amendment. 

You need to be currently living in the state you are applying to represent. See the list of states below. You will need to be able to travel to the capital city of your state on a specific date to hand over your completed stripe and be a part of the public performance while your stripe is added to the flag. Selected artists will receive a $1,000 stipend.

The finished flag will be 18 ft. by 26 ft. There will be 36 stripes, one to represent each state that ratified the 19th amendment. The selected 36 pieces of art will be sent to Her Flag in a digital format.

Some important details of the Call to Artists:
- Artwork will be 80% red or pink, with Michigan being a pink stripe
- All 2D media is accepted 
- The name of the state you are representing needs to be worked into the artwork
- Artwork must be 6 in. tall and can be any width

Applications are due Monday Nov. 5, 2018.
