Supporting The Arts & Arts Councils Everywhere

Volume 5 No. 8| February 24, 2023

Notes from the Editor:

As hard to believe as it is, when I got back online and was receiving emails again, it was just short of two weeks that I was without. They were the most stressful two weeks I can recall for a very long time. Hurricanes are worse but they don’t last anywhere near this long.

I want to give a shout out to the young man at AT&T who wouldn’t give up, Anthony Cappello. He did everything he could to solve the problem on his visit a couple of evenings ago, but when I showed him what was happening on my computer, he understood that something more had to be done. He went outside with his phone and had a lengthy discussion with someone at his office.

When he came back in, he explained that (not in his exact words) the distribution grid had been redrawn and I had landed at the end of the line, beyond the point at which I could get a signal. He must have given his boss a convincing argument, because that evening I could get and stay online, and a gazillion emails flooded my inbox. And I could watch TV.

Thank you, Anthony. You’re the kind of employee I’d like to have if I had employees.

So far, it’s still good, but I’m watching over my shoulder for the AT&T gremlins to return any minute.

So, here is an Arts Blast that’s all calendar. I’ll keep working on the next one and get it out when it’s ready. It’s taken me more than a day to get the calendar mostly up to date. Go online to willimiller.com for updates.

If you’ve emailed Arts Blast any arts information in the past two weeks, you should send it again. I fear things were lost in cyberspace. Thanks for your patience.

I plan to get my joy back by seeing A Comedy of Tenors at Riverside Theatre this weekend.

Being without a computer for so long, I will keep the drawing for a copy of The Killing of Innocents by Deborah Crombie open for another week for Arts Blast subscribes. If you've linked to this on Facebook or online, subscribe (it's free!), and follow these instructions.

SUBSCRIBERS ONLY: You have until March 2 to send a four-digit number to willi@willimiller.com. A random-number digitizer will select the winner. Only domestic (US) entries, please.

Please support small, local businesses. Arts Blast is one of them, so if you have an event coming up, or something artsy to sell or teach, consider advertising it in Arts Blast!

Audition for Ballet Vero Beach's 2023-2024 Season

Ballet Vero Beach is seeking professional dancers for the 2023-2024 Season. The company is specifically interested in male presenting dancers with professional experience, excellent classical and contemporary technique, and superior partnering skills. However, the company will consider all applicants regardless of gender identity. Interested dancers should submit resume and video footage to info@balletverobeach.org. For more information about our organization click Audition.

Apply to our Fellowship Initiative

The company is also seeking applicants for the Fellowship Initiative for Dancers. Specifically aimed at altering the way young people enter the field, this two year program allows accepted fellows to dance full time with Ballet Vero Beach, receive their AA or BA through Indian River State College (paid for by the company), and experience hands on training in arts literacy and arts integration through delivering the company's education and engagement initiatives. To apply for the initiative click Apply.

Apply to the Riverside Dance Festival

The Riverside Dance Festival is a unique experience in Intensive Summer Study presented by Riverside Theatre and Ballet Vero Beach. Accepted students will experience day-to-day life with Terminus Modern Ballet Theatre. Students will have the opportunity to take daily technique classes in hip hop and contemporary dance from Terminus and Riverside’s own distinguished faculty. They will also perform alongside Terminus in a mixed repertory concert to culminate the festival. To apply, click Apply.
