Executive Director’s Message
As you are aware the impact of COVID-19 is devastating on individuals, families, industries, and of course our nonprofit community in the Coastal Bend. I want to personally thank you for your calls, emails, thoughts, and prayers for Mission of Mercy during this difficult time. We are praying for you as well.

Our staff, nurses and limited physicians continue to work at the Medical Center and the Sandia Clinic even though our buildings are temporarily closed to the public. Like everyone, we must continue to implement social distancing, hand washing, working from home, etc. to help mitigate the situation of the Corona Virus while protecting the health of our staff, volunteers, patients, and community.

Our medical team continues to work on patient medication requests, working with pharmacies, talking with patients, rescheduling appointments, etc. Our nurses are on call and available to address any concerns and issues our patients have by phone and teleconference. In addition, we are implementing strategies to prepare for when we can see patients for their medical appointments. We envision a tremendous increase in the number of patient appointments for our current patients and the need for new patient appointments. We pray that all our dedicated volunteers return healthy and ready to assist again.

You can assist Mission of Mercy during this difficult time by making a financial gift by mail, phone or online. Please consider donating all or a portion of your government issued Stimulus Check. Your gift will continue to assist our patients with free medical care, prescription assistance, and more!

At Mission of Mercy we are still serving our patients and “Healing through Love.” God Bless You during this Holy Week!

Volunteer Spotlight...
Meet Sean Dinh who learned about Mission of Mercy through a friend while volunteering at Mother Theresa Shelter. He has been volunteering since September 2019 by assisting the nurses with triaging the patients.

He enjoys visiting with the patients before they are seen by the doctors. He has built relationships with the patients since he started. Sean’s passion is watching the patients attend their first appointment while ill and in need of help, and when they come in for follow-up appointments, they are healthier. Sean also enjoys seeing the patients’ smile as they leave the clinic because they received the assistance they needed. Sean says that is the best part of volunteering.

Sean’s personal goal is to get involved in the medical community because he wants to attend medical school. Assisting patients in a free clinic has taught him that medicine means compassion, that volunteering is something you do with no other motive than wanting to help and give back. It is not mandatory; it is not required. His grandparents taught him that. He has learned more about his community and the people in it by volunteering.

Sean mentioned when he becomes a doctor, he will continue to volunteer. Volunteering at Mission of Mercy has opened his eyes to the needs of those without insurance, those who without Mission of Mercy would have no place to turn.
MASH BASH 2020!
Mission of Mercy and 440 of our close friends packed the Ortiz Center as MASH BASH 2020 went country with multi-platinum country artist Tracy Byrd. Guests danced the evening away after their dinner was served up by the Corpus Christi Mustangs.

Attendees played unique games like a life-size game of Operation, perusing the silent auction tables, and dressing in camo as doctors, nurses and M*A*S*H characters. Awards were given to the “Best Dressed Male,” “Best Dressed Female,” “Best Decorated Table,” and Award Honorees.

Thank you to all of our sponsors, auction donors and attendees for helping us raise $123,000 to continue our mission of “Healing through Love,” by providing free medical care, prescription assistance, behavioral health counseling and vision care to those in our community who need it most.

Mark your calendars for next year’s MASH BASH 2021 scheduled for March 5, 2021 which will feature a Grammy, ACA and CMA winning country band!
Community Challenge….
Local Philanthropist Mr. Eugene Bouligny issued a challenge to Mission of Mercy on January 1 to raise $150,000 which in turn would be matched by his Community Grant. We are excited to report that because of our generous donors, we were able to raise the $150,000 and Mr. Bouligny presented a check to Mission of Mercy. We could not do it without the many donors who believe in our mission and believe that everyone should be able to have access to medical care regardless of their financial circumstances. Thank you Mr. Bouligny and the Coastal Bend Community!

Vision Clinic Open House…
In October 2019, Mission of Mercy received a grant award of $50,000 from the LaVerne and Thomas Howell Foundation to purchase new equipment in our Vision Clinic. In January 2020, we held an Open House to show off the new equipment to the public and to the media. Our doctors are better able to serve our patients and ensure the best care possible. We are thankful to the LaVerne and Thomas Howell Foundation and our volunteer Ophthalmologist and Optometrist for making our Vision Clinic possible.
