Dream Journal – August 2024

Cherishing our Staff

Our CCDO Dream Team is our greatest asset working hard every day to fulfill our mission. With a new bigger office we want to provide a comfortable working space. While we promote health in our rural communities we also need to take care of our staff’s wellbeing. We instigated an annual health check, complete with blood analysis as well as dental check and teeth cleaning.

Most of the team head out to work in the far flung rural areas and travel long distances in their outreach to the community on motorbikes mostly on dirt roads. We made sure that they all have sturdy helmets as well as protective rain gear, especially needed in the next few months of heavy rains.

Piglets for Food

Thanks to a grant from Together We Can Change the World (TWCCTW), we are able to provide 20 families with funds to raise pigs. They can then sell them in the market and start a small business to continue pig farming. We have ensured that the pigs are raised in healthy conditions. We are happy to see the rise in the standards from our very modest beginnings many years ago. Video link

Tabi Visit

Ah, how time flies! Tabi Hansen and her mom Jenn have been our innovative and faithful supporters nearly from the start. Tabi was just 6 years old when she and her mom held the first fundraiser with their Brownie troop. Now Tabi is heading off to college in Australia but before going Down Under she is joining our Dream Team as a summer intern. We are looking forward to her reports and insights from the field.

Board of Directors

With a heavy heart, we accepted the resignation of our invaluable BOD member Carol Duster. Carol has been a stalwart supporter of CCDO for the past 10 years. Prior to Covid, she and her husband Mark, would spend a month in Cambodia each year, becoming very involved with all aspects of CCDO programs, especially improving education and enlarging our mobile libraries. Carol was a dedicated fundraiser with family members and her local community in Salida, Colorado. They founded mobile library and sponsored scholarship students. Carol and Mark have decided to retire and devote their efforts to their local community and well as becoming snow birds in Mexico. We wish them the best of happiness. They will both be missed.

Replenishing and Enlarging our Board of Directors

Have you been following us for a while? Are you looking to make a meaningful impact on the world and leave a legacy of kindness? We would be happy to have your heart and expertise on our volunteer board. We meet quarterly online to discuss quarterly reports and make sure transparency in finances is assured. People of all ages welcome.

Donors

Once again, our cherished and generous supporter, Starr Moore, has donated $10,000 for our general fund. She realizes that we need funds to pay the rent and keep the lights on as well as paying the extras for our staff to keep them healthy and safe. A huge thank you to her. CCDO started with small donations from friends and family. We are always grateful for any donations as they go a long way to keep operating our organization.
