SPRING - 2018
Cherriots Trip Choice's mission is to empower people to navigate their communities in ways that improve livability and quality of life. We do this by providing information about making healthy transportation choices and encouraging the use of carpooling, vanpooling, walking, bicycling, and using public transportation.
Time to dust off the bike and get ready for the Bike More Challenge. May 1 – May 30 join your fellow Oregonians in a friendly competition to encourage each other to enjoy the benefits of riding a bike. The May Bike More Challenge is team-based, so enlist your coworkers to join in the fun.

This challenge is about encouraging biking, so points are awarded not just for miles ridden, but also for inspiring others to ride. There are some great prizes as well! Register for the Bi ke M ore Challenge here.

If you are a little rusty after being off your bike all winter, check out the Bicyclists’ Survival Guide for a little refresher on how to stay safe while riding.
Just Walk Salem Keizer celebrated National Walking Day with a community walk around Riverfront Park. We were lucky enough to have warm, dry weather and the cherry blossoms were in full swing. Mayor Chuck Bennett kicked off the walk with some encouraging words about the City’s commitment to improving safety and access for walkers.
A group of about 30 walkers enjoyed the sights and sounds of our vibrant downtown park. Along the walk Patricia Farrell, City of Salem Parks Planning and Resources Manager, highlighted some of the concepts that are being proposed in the Riverfront Park Master Plan. Information about this plan can be found here.
The Cherriots Trip Choice program holds a poster contest each year asking area youth to create original artwork for use in the Cherriots calendar. Over 400 students representing 18 schools take inspiration from the theme, #iexplORe, and create some amazing transportation options-related artwork. The judges narrow down all the entries based on originality, theme presentation, and artistic quality and come up with six posters from the middle school and seven from the high school categories. The winning posters are used in the 2019 Cherriots calendar and one artist has their poster featured on the Cherriots summer youth pass. If you would like a copy of this year’s calendar featuring the latest student winners, email tripchoice@cherriots.org .

This year's 1st place winners receive a NEW BICYCLE from Santiam Bicycle and 2nd and 3rd place winners receive gift cards from Craft Warehouse.
