Beach? Mountains? Market!
There's just something so special about a farmers' market in peak season. So come on out and spend part of your holiday weekend with us. We are expecting our awesome fiddling musician Tom to be on hand. So shop, visit, hang out, and have a good time!

Now, don't be put off by the name winter squash. It's called that because of its long-keeping characteristics. And, yes, it's starting to make an appearance at the market. (Currently at Taproot Farm, coming soon to Rineer Family Farms) This means that, despite the name, it is, in fact, in season right now. You don't need to come in from the cold to enjoy it. So go ahead, add it to this week's dinner plans.
As part of their glorious abundance, both Rineer Family Farms and Taproot Farm continue to offer summer squash along with other icons of the season like sweet corn, tomatoes, and melons–perfect Labor Day weekend foods to have at any gathering. If you are craving even more fruit, Rineer Family Farms will also have raspberries (maybe some blackberries) along with peaches; and Fahnestock Fruit Farm is all about peaches and apples, and maybe some other unexpected delights!
Who knows....
This is, of course, the fun of a farmers' market.
What will you find?
And don't forget your mushrooms from Primordia Mushroom Farm. Overheard at the market:
"There's no better way to treat yourself than with mushrooms." So true.
Finally, here's a tip for those who love roasted butternut squash but don't like peeling it. Try honeynut squash from Taproot Farm.
It's similar to butternut but, because the skin is tender and thin, it can easily be enjoyed with the peel on. Give it a try!
All of our produce farmers accept the Farmers' Market Nutrition Program checks. And Taproot Farm additionally accepts SNAP.
