Chez News: February 2024

February 2024

Winter can't dampen spirits Chez Nous! Not when there's so much happening at the school and within our community. We welcomed students newly accepted to Notre Dame, the Class of 2028, and celebrated our school's founding, history, and values this month. This newsletter also spotlights an individual student's impressive achievement. Finally, we look forward to welcoming many alums, parents, and friends of faculty for our 3rd Annual Career Fair on March 1st and hope to see everyone at our 67th Annual Chez Nous Benefit on March 23rd.

Welcome, New Students!

Notre Dame was pleased to welcome nearly 150 members of the Class of 2028 and their families to our Accepted Students Night on February 8th.

The newest members of the ND community had the chance to mingle with current students, faculty, and families, explore offerings, and of course, pose with ND swag!

A warm Chez Nous Welcome to all!

Our Lady of Lourdes Day

The school celebrated its annual Feast Day on the morning of February 12th, with academic and creative presentations. Students from all grade levels presented their class projects on topics ranging from a focus on marginalized communities, to a historical study of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire, to an examination of the housing and mental health crises.

The Chez Nous Steppers and ND Glee Club bought down the house with their performances; and a sure highlight was the creative junior video presentation of the life of Anne de Xainctonge, our spiritual founder. Seniors shared their reflections on some of our school's key values, such as perseverance, friendship, and Magis. Treats for all were handed out at dismissal!

There's still time to buy your tickets to the 57th Annual Chez Nous Benefit! The Benefit is Notre Dame's most important fundraiser of the year and supports our vital Scholarship and Financial Aid programs that make an ND education available to a beautifully diverse group of students. The event includes an open bar cocktail hour, a three-course gourmet lunch, award presentations and student speakers, and performances by ND Glee! Live and Silent Auctions, along with a paddle raise to Fund the Scholarship offer your chance to return home with a luxury item or experience and also to feel great about supporting the school. The event will be held on Saturday, March 23rd, from noon - four pm at Pier 60, Chelsea Piers. We hope to see you there!

Student Honored as a Semifinalist at the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium

Congratulations to senior Astrid Green, whose research paper on the topic of the Machine Learning field challenged a widely accepted theory called the Curse of Dimensionality. Astrid conducted experiments using the k-Nearest Neighbors algorithm. She submitted her paper to the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium in the New York-Metro area and was chosen as a semifinalist. She is shown here presenting her findings on February 11th at York College with the hopes of moving to the next round in the competition. Impressive work, Astrid!
