Our Mission: "Multiplying Leaders, Ministries and Healthy Churches"
" But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked." (Luke 6:35)
" But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control." (Galatians 5:22-23)
" Love is patient, love is kind..." (1 Corinthians 13:5)
Pastor Dan Reiland correctly states that the #1 overlooked quality of a kindness. We certainly need to talk more about the kindness that God has toward us and how much kindness is required if we are to be effective in serving others within God's church.
It is kindness that allows trust, connection and agenda harmony to begin to grow. It is kindness that brings peace and joy into pressure-filled situations. In the Old Testament, God's heart toward us is expressed through His kindness:  "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness..." (Jeremiah 31:3).
Yes, good leaders can handle the hard stuff, the difficulties that come with the task of leading. They are able to "take the heat." At times, circumstances require us to be tough-minded, not weak or indecisive. But when we are filled with Jesus, there is a spiritual dimension that will always reveal itself in our relationships. It flows out of our hearts because we have been filled with the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5). Hearts full of God's love will always nurture a desire for kindness to permeate our relationships.
God reminds us that above all else we should guard our heart, because all of the other issues of life flow out if it (Proverbs 4:23). We need to make sure the pressures of leading never steal the spirit of kindness from us. To give that word of encouragement may take a moment or two, but slowing down to do it is so necessary. Kindness cannot be rushed. Patience is the testament of whether or not God's love has truly taken up residence within us (1 Corinthians 13:4). Practicing it is indispensable.
Genuine humility and a desire to serve other people will keep nurturing our desire to always be kind to one another (Ephesians 4:32).  Thank you for practicing it - and for serving so well on the Chicago Central District and for being Christ in Action. You are loved.
