Our Mission: "Multiplying Leaders, Ministries and Healthy Churches"
" All this is in writing," David said, "because the hand of the Lord was upon me and He gave me understanding in all the details of the plan." (1 Chronicles 28:19)
There are times when the hand of the Lord comes on us and gives us understanding that is beyond our own thinking or capabilities. Here in 1 Chronicles, King David testifies that he sensed it was God who gave him understanding in all of the step-by-step details required to design and build God's temple. David's job was to write it down when the ideas from the Lord came to him.
At our Advisory Board meeting last Saturday I shared with the DAB what the Lord has been putting on my heart to do for some time. Over these past four years we have tried to follow the Holy Spirit and develop a district "multiplying culture." Churches are responding, pastors are getting involved, God is opening some incredible doors among us and the Chicago Central District registered more new churches and ministries last year than any other district on the USA/Canada Region.
Over the past four decades, I have had the privilege of being involved in church development with some of the most gifted leaders in the Church of the Nazarene and beyond. I have had so many mentors, coaches and leaders who have poured into me their wisdom and their hearts. I shared my heart with our Advisory Board and then left the room for about 40 minutes while they discussed what they sensed the Holy Spirit was saying to them. When I returned, they shared with me the following - what an incredible encouragement it was.
"The motion was made this summer to commission Dr. McKain to complete a book about church planting and multiplying ministries in existing churches through a writing retreat, scheduled from June 1 - August 23, 2019. We will ask the district for Dr. McKain to be left alone during this time so he can concentrate on the task at hand. Scott Whalen will oversee day to day operations in his role as Assistant District Superintendent. The goal from this summer is to give our district both a book and two websites ( we can use. It will provide a common terminology with a unified mission and vision regarding multiplication for both new churches and increased health for existing churches. It will be designed to help other churches and districts as well. Should you have any needs over these next few months, please reach out to Scott ( or 312-535-7229) and he will be able to help you.
If you need to talk with Dr. McKain before he leaves, please email ( or text him (312-255-0152) so he can get in touch with you during the next few days. We also ask that you be in prayer for Dr. McKain. We know that this will be a fruitful time, but it is also a huge undertaking with many long hours. Your prayer support means the world to him. If you have any questions, or we can serve you in any way, please let us know. The motion carried unanimously."
Over these next few weeks in our weekly CIA Newsletter, I will be sharing the outline of the book, along with excerpts from it. The title is: MultiplyNaz - Fueling the Nazarene Movement with Love. Thank you for your prayers, for serving so well on the Chicago Central District and for being Christ in Action. We have tremendous days ahead!  You are loved.

Dr. Larry McKain, Superintendent
Chicago Central District
Church of the Nazarene

Another great Celebrate Life for our youth at Olivet. A big thanks to David Morris for his leadership of our District NYI.

Some of our great CCD teens and their leaders at Celebrate Life.

Celebrate Life happens because of the wonderful leadership of Matt and Michelle Smith and an army of volunteers.

Denise had the privilege of joining in worship with Kankakee First Church this past Sunday with Pastor Andrew and the wonderful worship team led by Don Reddick.

Please continue to pray for Robyn Luttrell, especially for guidance in treatment for ongoing seizures.

We would love to hear any prayer requests or celebrations from our district pastors to include in our weekly communications. Please email us so we can lift each other up!
