HOCKEY WORLD MOURNS LOSS OF HOCKEY TEAM IN TRAGIC BUS CRASH
At least 15 members of a Canadian junior hockey team, the Humboldt Broncos, died after a crash between their bus and a tractor-trailer. This tragedy struck at the heart of a tight knit city in rural Saskatchewan and immediately echoed through the hockey world and beyond.

The deadly crash occurred around  5 p.m.  Friday, April 6th on Highway 35 in Saskatchewan, about 150 miles northeast of Saskatoon,  according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The bus was carrying members of the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey league team, on their way to the town of Nipawin for a playoff game.

"All of us in amateur hockey are saddened by this horrific accident involving several members of the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team from Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Canada. The Illinois ice hockey community extends its heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those involved. They will be forever in our thoughts and prayers" said John Dunne, president of the Amateur Hockey Association Illinois, Inc.

The international hockey community is showing their support for the friends and family of the Humboldt Broncos by wearing their team jersey to school on Thursday, April 12th. We encourage everyone to do the same.  #HumboldtStrong

QUESTION: On a penalty shot, the player started skating with the puck and about halfway to the goal he lost possession. He skated beyond the puck closer to the goal. He then stopped, the puck caught up to him and he grabbed it and continued. The puck remained in forward motion the whole time and did not stop. Is that legal?  ANSWER>>

Unsportsmanlike Conduct: AHAI cites uptick in abuse of hockey referees
By Jon J. Kerr, Pioneer Press ~  Lilly Bianchi wanted to be involved with hockey as much as possible.  She was a team captain at Lake Forest High School and was a runner-up in a USA Hockey essay contest in 2014.  Bianchi also took the ice as a referee.  "Officiating is another way to show your love for hockey," said Bianchi, now a 20-year-old attending St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y. She is a sophomore on the varsity rowing team and plays club hockey at St. Lawrence.  But Bianchi's love of the game was tested when she was 15 years old. A coach of a Lake County youth team vociferously questioned a call she made during a neutral-site game at MacKenzie Ice Arena on the campus of Lake Forest Academy. READ MORE>>
