A note from the District Commissioner
Thank you to all who were able to attend our Annual Chicora District Awards & Recognition Banquet! 2024 was a resounding success on so many levels for our District, our Scouts, and our Volunteers! This event was a great night of fellowship for all, as well as an opportunity to celebrate the hard work of some of our very dedicated Volunteers. I would like to extend my heartful thanks and congratulations to the 2024 Chicora District Award of Merit Recipient, Ms. LuAnn Carrig. LuAnn is an inspiration to us all. she works tirelessly to ensure the Scouts of her units have the opportunity to take part in all of the amazing offerings the Scouting Program has to provide.
We were joined by Indian Waters Council Scout Executive, Doug Stone. Mr. Stone shared some very kind words about the volunteers who make the Chicora District work. He focused on the importance of our Units delivering a consistent and excellent program to the youth our district serves by highlighting the exceptional retention rate of the youth our programs serve. He took time to recognize that our Units are doing a great job working with their youth and that our District Committee's efforts to provide programming that not only supplements the Units but drives home the intent of our program to all who are involved are both equally critical to the success of retaining the Scouts as well as our Council leading recruitment efforts.
Thank you to all the Leaders and Volunteers who continue to give up their free time to make a difference in their units and the lives of the youth they serve. Every leader and volunteer is critical to ensuring we are providing the best program possible for the youth we serve. Thank you for all you do.
Our next Roundtable event is Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 7 pm in the PALM Charter School cafeteria. We will be celebrating the start of Spring with a BBQ-themed meal. Roundtable participants are asked to bring a side dish to share with everyone.
Our March Cub Scout Breakout will cover S.A.F.E. Scouting and age-appropriate activities for Cub Scouts as well as offer up some Service Project ideas to help our Cub Scout Packs be more visible in their service to our communities. Our March Scouts BSA Breakout will focus on the Importance of Advancement and Forming of Patrols. We hope you will join us next month.
In closing, I'd like to thank everyone for a wonderful 2024 and I look forward to 2025 being a year of Scouting growth for the Chicora District.
Yours in Scouting,
Michelle Malcolm
