Chief Information Officer & Director, Business Operations Announcement
I am pleased to announce that Andrew Norton (pictured right) has been appointed by the Law Society of Alberta Board to the new role of Chief Information Officer & Director, Business Operations effective April 25, 2019.

Mr. Norton joined the Law Society in 2011 as the Director, Business Technology. He was initially hired to manage business technology operations but over time he has steadily increased his influence on operations across the organization and has taken on responsibility for other departments including Membership and Information Management.

Mr. Norton is a thoughtful and consistent leader at the Executive Leadership table. He always brings a practical counterbalance to the organization as a non-lawyer leader. In his new role as Chief Information Officer & Director, Business Operations, Mr. Norton will be responsible for leading the organization though changes to business operations as well as leading projects that enhance business effectiveness. He will oversee the selection and implementation of technology tools and services that will help to streamline internal operations in support of our strategic goals.

We are thankful for Mr. Norton’s leadership within the organization and look forward to his ongoing contributions on the Executive Leadership Team.

Notice to the Profession: Federal Court of Appeal
Re: Amendments to the Request Form for Access to Digital Audio Recordings of Federal Court of
Appeal Hearings

On December 21, 2016, the Federal Court of Appeal issued a notice to the profession concerning access to digital audio recordings of hearings before the Court. The purpose of this notice is not to replace or invalidate the notice of December 2016. Its purpose is to give notice to the profession of changes made to the form used to request access to a digital audio recording or to request a copy of a digital audio recording; specifically the addition of a request for information on the use the requester intends to make of the requested copy.
