December 2015

2016 has been a wonderful year at the Child & Family Guidance Center of Texoma as we celebrated 50 years of life-changing work!
I feel extremely blessed and privileged to serve the Texoma community alongside so many dedicated and committed board members (past and current), volunteers and staff.  This year brought me closer to hundreds of amazing people who support this cause of helping hurting Texoma children and family members heal and move forward with their lives.

Thank you for your support and I wish you and yours a blessed Christmas and Happy New Year!

Local Foundations Invest in CFGC Services
We are thrilled to announce that CFGC recently received generous grant awards from the Wilson N. Jones Community Foundation and the Dorset Foundation.  The Foundation's  financial investment increases CFGC's capacity to provide high quality mental healthcare to impoverished Texoma families improving their ability to cope, function and lead successful lives.

WNJ Community Foundation President Tom Kyle presented a grant award check to CFGC Board Members David Bayless, Twila Crick and Frank Gadek. Executive Director Brenda Hayward happily accepts the award.
Santa Needs Your Help!
Over 85% of the families served at CFGC live in poverty.  Many do not have enough food to eat or money for the most basic items.  Still...Santa is expected in the hearts of their children.
Please consider helping us provide support by donating online at www.cfgcenter.org  for Client's Christmas Gift Cards. Gift cards will be distributed to our neediest families by December 22nd.
Thank you and Merry Christmas!
A Big Thanks to the Dishner Family for adopting four of our
families this Christmas.

10 Tips for Helping Children with
Anxiety During the Holidays
The holiday season with shopping, preparations and many social events can be stressful for adults, but can be times of high anxiety for children as well. When parents are overwhelmed, children can pick up on those feelings and become overwhelmed as well. For children with anxiety, these feelings can cause them to not enjoy the holiday season.
Below are ten tips for helping children to cope with holiday anxiety:
1)        Look for and recognize signs of stress in children. Some signs of anxiety can include:
a.         Crying or irritable for no reason or over minor mishaps
b.        Displaying nervous behaviors or an increase in behaviors such as nail biting, hair twirling, bedwetting or hyperactivity
c.         Increase in stomach aches or headaches
d.        Lack of desire to participate in holiday activities or get together with friends.

CFGC Clinical Team Continues to Grow!

CFGC's clinical team continues to grow to keep pace with the need for services.  We are blessed to have a team of passionate and compassionate licensed therapists and interns helping Texoma children, caregivers and families strengthen and improve their lives.    We are thankful to the many generous donors for funding clinical positions so we cans serve impoverished families.

Community Partnerships and Collaborations Helps Texoma Youth and Families
We are excited to share that through our licensed intern program CFGC has partnered with several agencies and organizations assisting them with providing mental healthcare services to their populations.

Each week our licensed professional counselor interns go offsite to the Crisis Center, Fannin County Children's Advocacy Center,  Grayson County Department of Juvenile Services, Grayson County Health Clinic,  North Texas Youth Connection and Denison ISD Pathways.

In addition, our collaboration with Texoma Community Center has expanded CFGC's free Family Empowerment Program and weekly Parenting Class to include the Nurturing Parent curriculum.

Collectively we are impacting the lives of hundreds of youth and families.
