Recognizing the Signs of Possible Human Trafficking
January is delegated as Human Trafficking Awareness Month. There has continued to be an array of conversations about human trafficking. If you have social media, you are likely to have seen at least one human trafficking focused post. At Child Advocacy, our goal is to provide accurate information that will empower individuals to act appropriately if they are confronted with a situation that could potentially be human trafficking. We first must know the signs to look for, the following are just a few that might indicate an individual is being trafficked:
-unstable living situations, possibly homeless
-being fearful of authorities
-physical injuries or showing signs of abuse
-tattoos/branding
-avoiding social situations/not able to go out alone
It is important to remember that these are only signs, not a guarantee that someone is being trafficked. There are systems in place that allow for these victims to be properly identified and provided with appropriate services. If you suspect that someone is being human trafficked, please reach out to your local law enforcement agency. You can also contact the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1 (888) 373-7888.
January 11th is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. Please join Child Advocacy as we wear our BLUE to show our support for raising awareness on January 11th. Encourage everyone around you to partake in #WearBlueDay and to send Child Advocacy your photos with the hashtag #WearBlueDay so they can be shared on our Facebook Page.

Shop with a Hero 2021
Our 10th annual Shop with a Hero was a huge success! Thank you to The Gratiot County Community Foundation, Optimist Club of Gratiot County, Alma Meijer, Alma Wal-mart, Alma Police Department, Alma Fire Department, First Congregational Church - Breckenridge, Scott Merchant (Santa), all of our Heroes including officer Blue, and our wonderful wrapping volunteers!
With all of this support, we were able to touch the lives of over 75 children in Gratiot County!

Greetings,
Happy New Year!
I hope that you had a happy and healthy holiday season. I am looking forward to a fresh start and a brand new year in 2022. We hope you will join us this year for one (or all) of our events, fundraisers, trainings, and Lunch and Learns. If you have never visited Child Advocacy please stop by and let us tell you about our programs.
As we say goodbye to 2021 we would like to thank all of the clients, volunteers, donors, sponsors, supporters, and well wishers that have made our programs possible. Thank you to the staff and Board of Directors at Child Advocacy for all that you do. And thank you to all of the collaborations we have had along the way. As difficult as 2021 was on families, children, businesses, and nonwe are beyond grateful for all of you.
Sincerely,
Audra Stahl
