Gratiot County Substance Abuse and Suicide Prevention

What a wild year 2023 has been! I hope that this finds you well—mentally and physically.

With all of the changes that we all have experienced over the past few years, I wanted to let you know that your Gratiot County Substance Abuse and Suicide Prevention Coalition continues to focus on Suicide Prevention and Awareness throughout our County.

The staff and Coalition members have been working tirelessly to make sure that our efforts continue to provide education and support to the residents of Gratiot County. We have been attending trainings, hosting our coalition meetings, planning for this upcoming school year, and planning our usual September Suicide Prevention and Awareness events.

As the Program Director, I wanted to take this time to invite anyone whom has been contemplating or curious about our Coalition, to join us for our upcoming meeting September 11, 2023 at 1:00PM at Child Advocacy in Alma. It is our mission to collect and share data in order to develop and implement prevention strategies. It is also our mission to promote and inspire community collaboration to reduce the misuse and abuse of alcohol, tobacco, or other substances among youth and adults, along with providing education regarding suicide prevention and awareness. At this specific meeting we will be welcoming Amanda Mosby, the Program Manager for Man Therapy to talk about Man Therapy Michigan.

Man Therapy is a public health campaign targeted at working-aged men to combat the stigma surrounding mental health and suicide. Different from other mental health approaches to suicide prevention, Man Therapy uses stories of hope, resilience and recovery, coupled with humor, to reduce stigma and reshape the conversation around suicide prevention and men’s mental health. We are extremely excited to welcome Amanda and Man Therapy to our Coalition meeting to learn more!

Throughout the month of September GCSAC continues to team up with our amazing community partners to bring you other events such as Goat Yoga... YES! GOAT YOGA! with ZenLightenment Wellness Center. GCSAC is also planning on hosting informational booths at our Farmer’s Markets, Fields of Flags and much more.

GCSAC will also have Cot;nue shirts on sale for $15 each and $10 for Gratiot County Students.

If you are interested in hosting a Field of Flags to show your support, please email Caleb Loomis and caleb@childadvocacy.net.

To be added to our contact list to learn about meeting locations, or other questions regarding our September Events, please email Emily Rayburn at emily@childadvocacy.net!

We look forward to welcoming you to our group and seeing you at one of our amazing events!

Remember—you matter!

Emily Rayburn

GCSAC Director

Greetings,

Welcome back to school! Our staff is excited for this next school year and have been planning throughout the summer for more opportunities to bring programming, training, and events to the community. We hope you will be able to take part in some of our upcoming activities for Suicide Prevention during the month of September and also take part in other programs/activities throughout the year. Please follow us on Facebook to stay updated on our current opportunities: Child Advocacy-Gratiot County.

Thank you to all who supported our United Way Match campaign in August. The funds raised will make a significant impact on the assistance that can be provided to families in our community through our Pantry Programs.

Have a great September!
