Child Care Aware of NH Updates
"Starting the Conversation"...
Child Care Aware of NH powered by Southern New Hampshire Services created a Starting the Conversation section in the At-A-Glance e-newsletter. Every month, we will bring you a new resource for best practices, strategies or hot topics that can start the conversation in your program and with your colleagues . We hope you enjoy this section.
September's Starting the Conversation Topic:
Using Positive Words: Creating an Encouraging Classroom
"Words Matter. They are packages of power that can harm or help. As Fred Rodgers said, "The greatest thing we can do is let people know that they are loved and capable of loving. This article offers activities and techniques centered on using positive words to make your classroom an encouraging place where children, families and teachers feel the love."    https://www.naeyc.org/resources/pubs/tyc/aug2019/using-positive-words

Child Care Aware of NH powered by Southern New Hampshire Services is hiring!
  • Are you looking for something new?
  • Do you want to make a difference in early childhood working directly with providers and programs?
  • Do you have great attention to detail?
Then, check out our two Environment Rating Scale Anchor positions.

"The Environment Rating Scales (ERS) are tools that help to view child development from a comprehensive, or global, point of view, examining a wide variety of areas that all contribute to positive children development. In order to provide care and education that will permit children to experience a high quality of life while helping them develop their abilities." ERS Institute

As an Environment Rating Scale Anchor you will be trained by Child Care Aware of NH to know the ERS tools inside and out. Once you have mastered the tool, you will have the opportunity to provide training and coaching to programs on the ERS. Environment Rating Scale Anchors will also have the opportunity to facilitate a collaborative group and/or cohorts to promote professionalism and best practices to program directors related to ERS. Discipline and Limit Setting

"In order to follow rules and understand limits, children need to develop self-control.
Self-control and self-regulation are complex skills that begin to emerge in the early months of life and are more consistently apparent between four and five years of age. Self-regulation takes many years to fully develop — and adults may still struggle with this skill occasionally! Read more about how young children learn self-control through interactions with peers, parents, and other loving adults." Zero to Three

Family Voices Driving Quality Child Care Choices   unveils what families look for when choosing child care and where they turn, in our current digital age, for information about child care. All things that likely will resonate with you.
Below are some quick highlights from this year’s report:
  • Families value quality first and foremost over all things when selecting child care.
  • Cost is considered after quality, hours of operation and geographic accessibility, but often ends up being the final determining factor when choosing child care.
  • Online sources of child care information that families turn to the most are not necessarily the sources they trust.
  • Families remain unaware of reputable in person and online sources of child care information, including child care resource and referral agencies in their own community.
