September's Starting the Conversation Topic:
Using Positive Words: Creating an Encouraging Classroom
"Words Matter. They are packages of power that can harm or help. As Fred Rodgers said, "The greatest thing we can do is let people know that they are loved and capable of loving. This article offers activities and techniques centered on using positive words to make your classroom an encouraging place where children, families and teachers feel the love."

Discipline and Limit Setting
"In order to follow rules and understand limits, children need to develop self-control.
Self-control and self-regulation are complex skills that begin to emerge in the early months of life and are more consistently apparent between four and five years of age. Self-regulation takes many years to fully develop — and adults may still struggle with this skill occasionally! Read more about how young children learn self-control through interactions with peers, parents, and other loving adults."

Below are some quick highlights from this year’s report:
- Families value quality first and foremost over all things when selecting child care.
- Cost is considered after quality, hours of operation and geographic accessibility, but often ends up being the final determining factor when choosing child care.
- Online sources of child care information that families turn to the most are not necessarily the sources they trust.
- Families remain unaware of reputable in person and online sources of child care information, including child care resource and referral agencies in their own community.
