March 13, 2020

Good evening from your YMCA in Greenfield,

I think we are sharing the obvious with you when we state that the current Coronavirus situation is fluid and changing on a daily, if not hourly basis.

Here at your Y, please know that we are regularly in contact with our national Y-USA office as well as my fellow CEOS representing the 28 Associations of our Massachusetts State Alliance of YMCA’s. We are also closely following information and updates provided by our nation’s Center for Disease Control (CDC) and our state and local Departments of Public Health. Responsibly aligning ourselves closely with the recommendations of such experienced resources, we are able to make informed decisions and to follow best practices.

We have several points to share with you and your fellow Y members right now. Most importantly, your YMCA is currently open for business.

Through Monday morning, March 16, the following programs remain in place and are scheduled to run:
  • Youth Basketball Classes
  • Swimming lessons
  • Gymnastics Lessons and Team practice

We also have some key cancelations about which we want to alert you.

Of extreme importance to our Pre-School Families and Before/After School Child Care Families: The Governor of Massachusetts, Charlie Baker, has announced that all public schools in the state have been closed as of the end of today’s school day (Friday, March 13).

As such, in alignment with recommendations from the MA Department of Public Health, our Pre-School and Before/After School child care programs are now closed. They will remain closed for the duration of the public schools’ closure.

In addition, also in alignment with MA Department of Public Health, our YMCA ChildWatch program is now closed. It will remain closed for the duration of the public schools’ closure. We will certainly keep all affected families updated as soon as we receive any new information.

Starting today, March 13, upcoming programs NOW canceled include:
  • Friday night, March 13 Family Night
  • Sunday, March 15 Sunday Fun Day
  • Sunday, March 15 YMCA Member Movie (“E.T.”) at the Garden Cinema will be rescheduled.

On Monday, March 16, we will reevaluate our programs for the upcoming week. As new information becomes available and/or as new recommendations are handed down, we will adjust as appropriate and communicate such adjustments to you as soon as possible.
Thank you again for your understanding and for your support. At this trying time for our communities, state, region, and nation, your loyalty to your YMCA means the world to each of us -- starting with me!

All the best,

Grady Vigneau , CEO
