| ISU Insights: Highlighting our design team! | | Our instructional design team with ISU's Child Welfare Research and Training Project has more than 78 years of combined instructional design, facilitation and training experience working with Iowa Child Support workers from all around the state. Across the current team of six instructional designers, they design and develop all types of training ranging from annual compliance training like Confidentiality and Safeguarding, informative webinars around Guidelines Supreme Court changes, the upcoming process training focused on the new Electronic Document Exchange tool and skills training such as Motivational Interviewing to courses centered on youth and emerging adults involving the Parenting: It’s a Life curriculum and teen dating violence awareness program. Designers leverage a variety of tools to engage learners that include videos of Iowa Child Support staff explaining different processes and steps to interactive activities and games used to reinforce the material covered in their courses. | Training Resource: Royalty-free media |
When designing anything from simple fliers to PowerPoints with many slides, visuals are a critical element. The simplest way for anyone to make their design projects pop is to use high-quality, crystal clear, colorful images. However, you must be careful when selecting images from the internet, as most images that appear in a generic Google search are copyrighted and using them in your design may infringe upon that copyright.
The good news is, there are many sites that offer free, royalty-free (not copyrighted) images you can download without signing up or creating an account! The following is a list of sites you can use to find images, videos, and in some cases even background music you can use
in your projects.

Staff Highlight: Rochelle Rodd | There are more than 90,000 people in the United States waiting for a kidney transplant. As a State of Iowa employee, I am proud of the work I do every day to better the lives of the children and families we serve. I helped outside of work in a big way this year as well, with the help of the living organ donation benefit the State of Iowa offers its employees. As April is Donate a Life Month, I am sharing my story. |

| In December 2022, we announced Kayla DeBruin’s onset as our region’s floating SRO. For those of you wondering, this is a normal SRO position that “floats” to various work assignments. Kayla’s duties focus on mentoring new staff after training, assisting with caseload coverage, and working on special projects as needed. | |
