National Child Abuse Prevention Month recognizes the importance of communities working together to strengthen families to prevent child abuse and neglect.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

We have 10 days remaining in our Children's Advocacy Center of the Bluegrass Child Abuse Prevention Month crowdfunding campaign! Please consider making a gift or setting up a fundraiser. To join the campaign, check out this easy guide.

In return for your support, we will send you a blue ribbon to signify your commitment to ending child abuse. Our goal is to raise $12,000 - enough to support the full range of services for 10 children at the Center!

Snapshots: Pinwheel Planting on April 11, 2022

On April 11th, CAC of the Bluegrass hosted several of our community partners for a "Pinwheels for Prevention" pinwheel planting at the Center. This year, we planted 1,000 pinwheels - one for each child the Center will see in 2022. On hand to commemorate were: Mayor Linda Gorton, Councilwoman Hannah LeGris, members of the Lexington Police Department, Kentucky Cabinet of Health and Family Services, Fayette Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, Fayette County Attorney's Office, Bikers Against Child Abuse, Republic Bank, and more! Mayor Gorton presented a special proclamation in honor of the occasion. It was a great day to bring awareness to the issue of child sexual abuse.

Staff Spotlight

Carolyn Wilkinson, LCSW

Mental Health Specialist

IMG_3812.jpg

Carolyn has a deep belief that all children deserve to be loved and protected, and finds meaning in working with families to identify their mental health needs and instilling hope. In fact, her proudest moments working at CAC of the Bluegrass come when a parent or caregiver tells her she's been helpful.

A native Lexingtonian, Carolyn has been on the CACBG team since 2018, providing invaluable support and mental health resources for the children we serve and their non-offending families. It can be heavy work, but Carolyn maintains a positive attitude and a good sense of humor to prevent burnout. She also enjoys working in her yard, walking, cooking, spending time with her family and friends, and relaxing with a good book.

Carolyn says her favorite place in the world is on the beach, walking in the sand and swimming in the ocean. She says, "it is good for the mind, body, and soul!"
