CAC of the Bluegrass Lead Forensic Interviewer Lindsey Burns leading a training session with FCPS PD

FCPS PD Receives Minimal Facts Training

On August 3rd, over 50 members of the Fayette County Public Schools Police Department gathered at Crawford Middle School to learn more about the Minimal Facts gathering process in anticipation of the new school year.

Led by Lead Forensic Interviewer Lindsey Burns, the "Minimal Facts Training" program is designed to provide research-based best practice interview techniques for the first responding agencies in child sexual abuse cases. Each officer was also provided a reference card to keep in their office or cruiser for if and when they receive a report of child sexual abuse. This training is critical to ensuring a strong partnership between CACBG and local law enforcement and other agencies working on child sexual abuse cases.

This training program was made possible by support from the Kentucky Bar Foundation, and was the first of a series of trainings to be held with partner agencies across the CACBG service region.

Nursing Students Visit CACBG

A group of Practical Nursing students from Campbellsville University visited CAC of the Bluegrass in July for a tour and information session. The students were able to get an up close look at our medical center and learn about how critical the medical exam is for child victims of sexual assault.

The session was led by CAC of the Bluegrass's SANE Nurse and Clinic Coordinator Melissa Young-Flynn, who walked the students through the experience a child may have when receiving services at our facility, beginning with intake and through the interview, advocacy, medical, and therapy services.

CAC of the Bluegrass welcomes similar groups to come in for tours and information sessions. If you or a group with whom you are affiliated are interested in setting up a tour, contact Taylor Ballinger at Taylor@kykids.org.

CACBG in the Community

Staff Spotlight

Jackie Kuryla

Family Services Director

For the past six years, Jackie Kuryla has been a key member of the CAC of the Bluegrass program team. In that time, she has had many proud moments, but she is most proud when she sees her colleagues persevere when it's not easy. "Staff go above and beyond at CACBG advocating for kids and their families, ensuring their voices are heard," Jackie says. Jackie considers her work at CACBG a labor of love. She calls helping children and their families navigating their traumatic experiences "humbling", but absolutely "worth it" in the end.

Jackie considers herself a "fantasy nerd", and loves everything from Star Wars to Game of Thrones to Harry Potter. She loves spending time with her husband and friends and family, and she is a certified beach bum. When not in Lexington you can likely find Jackie in Key West, soaking up the sun!
