"Pinwheels for Prevention" on April 25th!

The Center's annual "Pinwheels for Prevention" Pinwheel Planting, in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month, is NEXT WEEK! Mark your calendars for April 25th at 10:00 AM here at our Center. Joining with our partner agencies and local community and business leaders, we will plant 1,000 pinwheels to represent the 1,000+ children we will serve in 2025. Coffee and donuts will be provided, and the Center will be open for tours following the planting.

The pinwheel is the national symbol for child abuse prevention, as the pinwheel connotes playfulness, joy, and childhood, and is a physical representation of the great childhoods we want for all children in the communities we serve.

If you are interested in learning more about our pinwheel planting, contact Taylor Ballinger at taylor@kykids.org. Thank you to Republic Bank for sponsoring this event!

Support the Center and Plant a Virtual Pinwheel!

The Children's Advocacy Center of the Bluegrass reduces the trauma experienced by child survivors of sexual abuse by providing services to them in a nurturing, child-friendly, and safe environment.

You can help support these crucial healing services by donating to our Center. In honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month, each donation will be recognized in our Virtual Pinwheel Garden! By donating you are providing hope for a better future for children and families in Central Kentucky.

Welcome to the Team!

Crystal Crouch

Crystal joins us as our Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Coordinator, which is a brand new role at the Center. She’ll be working closely with our community partners to strengthen collaboration and will oversee and facilitate MDT meetings across our region. In her free time, she enjoys relaxing in her backyard with her family. When asked why she wanted to work for the CAC, Crystal said, "The dedication to supporting and advocating for children in difficult circumstances aligns with my own passion for making a positive impact in the lives of children and families."

Makayla Richter

Makayla is our new Child and Family Advocate. She’ll be supporting children and families and connecting them with vital resources. Makayla loves to travel, but when she’s home, she’s spending time with her two dogs, Oliver and Bear. When asked why Makayla wanted to work for the CAC, she said, "While working at the Cabinet, I was able to work alongside the CAC and saw firsthand the positive impact that the services provided had on children and families. Child welfare is a passion of mine and I wanted to be a part of an organization that is able to support and put a smile on families' faces even during a difficult time!"

CAC of the Bluegrass's Legendary Partner:

Every year the Children's Advocacy Centers of Kentucky honors individuals throughout the state who go above and beyond to protect children in their community.

Congratulations to CAC of the Bluegrass nominee, Mary Courtney Tobin, the First Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney for the 14th Judicial Circuit. She is a tenacious champion for children that works tirelessly to give survivors a voice and to hold offenders accountable. We are so proud to work with her!

CAC of the Bluegrass Supports Child Abuse Prevention!

April has already been a busy month, full of amazing events for Child Abuse Prevention Month!

CAC of the Bluegrass had the opportunity to attend Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky's Child Abuse Prevention Month Kickoff and Pinwheel Planting. It was a wonderful opportunity to join with individuals and partners throughout the state who wish to see a world free of child abuse, including PCAKY Executive Director Jill Seyfred and Governor Andy Beshear.

Later that week, we joined with community partners in Jessamine County for a pinwheel planting outside of the Jessamine County Courthouse. Remarks were given by Tyra Chatman from DCBS, Ben Kleppinger with CASA of Lexington, Judge Executive David West, and Family Court Judge Jeff Moss.

And to continue our prevention and awareness efforts, CAC of the Bluegrass team members all wore blue for #WearBlueDay on April 4th in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month. Pictured below are just a few staff members in their blue.
