Heroes for Hope: An Evening For The Children's Advocacy Center

August 26th was a BIG NIGHT for the Children's Advocacy Center of the Bluegrass! This year's annual fundraiser "An Evening For The Children's Advocacy Center of the Bluegrass" presented by Knight, Wahle, and Chalothorn Orthodontics was the Center's most successful gala ever!

Over 300 attendees from across the community showed up and showed out, raising over $190,000 to support the life-changing services provided by the Center.

On behalf of the entire CAC of the Bluegrass team, THANK YOU to all attendees, sponsors, and supporters who helped make the night so special! We are overwhelmed by your support.

Mark your calendars for next year's event: August 25, 2023. You won't want to miss it!

Celebrating Lou Anna Red Corn

Lou Anna Red Corn, Fayette Commonwealth's Attorney, announced her retirement after more than 35 years of dedicated service.

Fayette County Commonwealth's Attorney Lou Anna Red Corn is retiring on September 30th, after serving the Fayette County community for over 35 years.

Lou Anna is a founding board member of the Children's Advocacy Center of the Bluegrass, and helped, along with former Fayette County Commonwealth's Attorney Ray Larson, establish the Fayette County Child Sexual Abuse Multi-Disciplinary Team in 1989. She also was instrumental in drafting the legislation in the early 1990s that defined CACs in the Commonwealth.

As Fayette County Commonwealth's Attorney, she established that office's first special victims’ unit – prosecutors especially trained and experienced in the prosecution of sexual assault, interpersonal violence, and child sexual abuse and exploitation.

Eventually, Lou Anna would rise to become the President of the National Children's Alliance Board of Directors. She has been a tireless advocate for the children of the Commonwealth throughout her entire career.

We at CAC of the Bluegrass thank Lou Anna for her dedicated service, and wish her the best in retirement.

Staff Spotlight

Angelle Forrester

Therapist

Since joining the CAC of the Bluegrass team in June, Angelle has been making big strides in re-launching the Center's therapy program. She is passionate about working with children who've experienced trauma and says the reason she works at the Center is "to give kids a voice and let them know they are not alone." Her proudest moments as a therapist are when kids tell her they are able to practice what she's taught them in real life and it works. "Their little lightbulbs go from 'this crazy lady with all her breathing' to 'man, she knows what she's talking about and she can teach me,'" she says.

Originally from Louisiana, Angelle is a graduate of both LSU and the University of Georgia. She loves being outdoors, following the Tigers and Bulldogs football teams, traveling, and working on her golf game. Her favorite place in the world is South Louisiana in late February and early March, when the weather is perfect and Mardi Gras, crawfish season, and baseball season collide.

CACBG Team Members Attend 'Kids Are Worth It' Conference

11 members of the CAC of the Bluegrass team joined hundreds of professionals across Kentucky at this year's "Kids Are Worth It" conference, hosted by Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky, earlier in September. The conference offered over 30 workshops on topics including evidence-based practices, trauma, human trafficking, the special education process, racial wealth gap simulation, internet crimes against children, neglect, and suicide prevention. The Children's Advocacy Center of the Bluegrass team is committed to the highest standards of continuing education opportunities and ensuring our practices are up-to-date to best serve the needs of our children and partners.
