A Joyful Pinwheels for Prevention Event!

Our community showed up in full force on April 25th for the Center’s annual Pinwheels for Prevention planting, held in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month. It was wonderful to be joined together with so many people and organizations that are passionate about supporting children and families in the Bluegrass.

We were honored to hear from several individuals during the event, including Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton, our Executive Director Winn Stephens, and Emily Miller, who is the Board Chair of the Children’s Advocacy Center of the Bluegrass and Central Kentucky Market Manager Senior Vice President of Republic Bank.

Our front lawn was covered in over 1,000 blue pinwheels, each one representing a child we expect to serve this year. The pinwheel, symbolizing hope, playfulness, and joy, is a powerful national symbol of child abuse prevention, and a reminder of the life that every child deserves.

We were grateful to be joined by representatives from many of our valued community partners, including the Lexington Police Department, Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, Fayette Commonwealth and County Attorney’s Offices, Lexington Fire Department, Fayette County Sheriff's Office, the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office, the National Children’s Alliance, Bikers Against Child Abuse, and others. Several members of the Kentucky State Legislature and LFUCG Council also joined us to mark the occasion.

A special thank you to Republic Bank for sponsoring this event, and to everyone who braved the rain to show their support. Together, we are working to ensure safer, brighter futures for all children in our community.

Kristin's Closet Donation Drives

The past two months have been busy in Kristin's Closet, our resource center which provides emergency items for children and families in need!

In April, Campbellsville University School of Nursing students dropped off more than 1,000 toiletry items! We are always in need of toiletries, and it is a comfort knowing that we will be fully stocked for several months.

Also in April, the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Lexington Alumnae Chapter created feminine hygiene kits in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month.

And in May, the Face it Movement of the Bluegrass organized a donation drive of snacks and food items that will help alleviate any food insecurity children and families may be facing while visiting our Center.

Kristin's Closet provides comfort for families in some of their darkest moments, and it is only made possible through the support of our community!
