The Center's annual "Pinwheels for Prevention" Pinwheel Planting, in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month, was held on April 19th. Remarks were given by Republic Bank representative Emily Chambers, Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton, State Representative Ruth Ann Palumbo, and CAC of the Bluegrass Executive Director Winn Stephens. Our Center's front lawn is now filled with more than 1,000 pinwheels to represent the over 1,000 children we will serve in 2024.
The pinwheel is the national symbol for child abuse prevention, as the pinwheel connotes playfulness, joy, and childhood, and is a physical representation of the great childhoods we want for all children in the communities we serve.
Representatives from our community partners such as the Lexington Police Department, Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, Fayette Commonwealth Attorney's Office, Fayette County Attorney's Office, Kentucky Attorney General's Office, the National Children's Alliance, Bikers Against Child Abuse, Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky, and more were on hand! Several LFUCG Council Members were also present to celebrate. Thank you Republic Bank for sponsoring, and thank you to everyone who attended to help us prevent child abuse in Central Kentucky.
