While COVID-19 impacts will be felt in many ways for the foreseeable future, we are proud of the support and assistance we have been able to offer to so many children, families and child care providers. We are thankful to our community of supporters that have helped in so many ways.
As our community begins to recover, I think many of us are starting to feel a sense of hope. The vaccine is rolling out, a third vaccine has been approved, our numbers are falling and things are starting to open a bit more. Today's morning news reminds us to remain vigilant with masks, hand washing and social distancing, especially as we approach Spring Break.
We also want to take this time to celebrate the women who have blazed a trail during Women's History Month, and March 8, which is International Women's Day. Program Spotlight: Safe Place
We are happy to announce that later this month is Safe Place Week, March 21-27, the time for us to commemorate the large impact Safe Place has on the teens in our community. What is Safe Place? It is a resource for any young person who feels threatened at home, school, or their community. They can simply call 1-800-536-4588 or TEXT "SAFE" and their current location to 4HELP (44357) for assistance. There are also many walk-up locations throughout our community - you have probably noticed the signs! If you haven't yet, you will now!
We have a team who is always available to answer the call or text to assess the immediate situation for safety and if necessary, we can provide temporary shelter. From there, we have so many other services the youth, and the family can take part in like our free family counseling, access to our food pantry, or case management services.
Safe Place started in 2003 and the mission is to provide Washoe County children/youth with a safety net to deal with a dangerous or threatening situation they are not prepared to deal with on their own. To learn more, visit our website:
