The May Children's Council meeting "Spotlight on..." will focus on supports for families at-risk for CPS involvement. In addition, there will be time for attendees to share updates from their organizations.

Preview: Our June meting will be a time for all participants to give a more in-depth update on their organization.

Our June meeting will be dedicated to YOU and YOUR ORGANIZATION! We will take the entire meeting to hear program and organizational updates from all. Please come prepared to share a  2-3 minute overview. Screen sharing will be available if you would like to show a website, PowerPoint slide, or brochure/flyer (not required!). The Children's Council will take a break in July & August and will return to meeting in September.

Dads Connect

Hosted by the Washington Fatherhood Council, Dads Connect is a meeting where dads can share experiences as a father with other dads. It is over Zoom on the third Wednesday of the month from 6:30 - 8PM.

Strengthening Families Washington's Coloring Book

Hosted Available in English and Spanish, this free coloring book focuses on the protective factors for families strength and resilience. 

The Conscious Kid Storytime

View the recorded read-aloud stories from The Conscious Kid. The Conscious Kid is an education, research and policy organization that supports families and educators in taking action to disrupt racism, inequity and bias.

Community Events

Law Day Legal Clinic 

The Skagit County Bar Association and Skagit Legal Aid will host their annual Law Day Legal Clinic at Knutzen Cardinal Center at Skagit Valley College. Meet with free attorneys about Housing, Health and Financial Security, Family, Immigration and other topics. Thursday, May 12, 2022 11:00 AM - 4:00 Pm. Pre-register and walk-in appointments available. Interpreters will be available. More information available HERE.

Professional Development

Each and Every Child: Why Equity Matters

This course, offered by ChildCare Aware NW, is a beginner's level training, looking at the differences between equality and equity, and discussing how it will look in action to create a caring, equitable community of engaged learners. May 11th 6-8:30PM, virtual, $12.50 fee, STARS available.

De-escalation Training with National Speaker Ryan Dowd

This is a free virtual training on compassionate empowerment of staff to manage their own behavior, and safely address disruptive behavior from individuals experiencing homelessness, substance use, and mental illness, increasing the likelihood of defusing a situation and supporting positive behavior. This 4-hour virtual training will be on May 23 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (breaks included). Register for the Zoom link.  An in-person option is available in Bellingham on May 20th. More info here.

Free Behavioral Health CE Training in June 

This free training is for behavioral health (BH) providers working with children and adolescents, organizations employing BH providers, and partners who work with these professionals anywhere in Washington State: North Sound ACH is hosting four trainings in June 2022. Register by May 26 HERE.

Virtual NAMICon 2022 Taking Place June 14-16

The pandemic and global events of the past two years have had a profound effect on the mental health of all of us across the country. NAMICon 2022 will feature more than 30 workshops built around five tracks along with plenary speakers and special events : $10 for students and peers, $15 for NAMI members;$25 for non-members.
