Children's Cove AmeriCorps Expands Volunteer Program
In June, Children's Cove added a new member to our team through the AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) Program. Olivia Friedrichs comes all the way from the west coast of California and will be spending her year of service to build upon and further develop our volunteer program. As a part of our core mission of raising awareness through community members, events and organizations, volunteers are an essential part of that mission. Olivia will surely take this program and bring it to a level we had only dreamed about before. We are excited for her to be here and look forward to sharing in her year of service to the Cape & Islands community.

Training for Camp Counselors Kicked Off Summer
Knowing that summer is the big time of year on Cape Cod, our Education and Outreach program was extra busy at the kick off of the season. Working with more than eight different organizations on Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard nearly 150 summer camp counselors were trained in the recognition and response to child abuse.               Counselors learned about different types of abuse and neglect, what to do if they suspect abuse, and how children who are abused will receive coordinated care and help once they report. The teams also discussed different scenarios and how they could be instrumental in getting a child help.
If you work for an organization that would benefit from training please contact Jacob Stapledon, our Community Education and Outreach Coordinator at [email protected]
Learning Collaborative to Begin in October
October 5th & 6th, Children's Cove will be partnering with the Justice Resource Institute to provide a 2 day in-person ARC (Attachment, Regulation, and Competency) training. The 2-day intensive training is for Master's level clinicians to provide skills in working with children who have experienced trauma. This training is then followed by 10 months of 90-minute group training phone calls related to small group work done on non-identifying cases. This gives therapists a chance to utilize the building blocks within the model with ongoing feedback and support as part of the collaborative. Therapists would finish with a 40-hour trauma informed training certificate in the ARC model.
If you know a clinician who would benefit from this training, please contact Kristine Monteiro, Mental Health Coordinator, at [email protected] for details.
