Family Mass Update

Thank you to everyone involved in last week's Family Mass: Greeters and Lectors, CIA and Children's Choir, and Gift Carriers (and all those who helped them)!  If you missed it, you can view the enactment of the Gospel by the CIA and Children's Choir on our FaceBook page here.

Our next Family Mass is November 3, just after All Saints Day, so all children are invited to dress as their favorite saint and join in the entrance procession. (Remember to set your clock back one hour Saturday night.)

Dates of remaining Family Masses are November 3, December 1, December 24, January 12, February 9, March 1, April 12, May 10 and June 21.  If your child is interested in making the Mass come alive through acting or movement, join the CIA: CHRIST IN ACTION for the month prior.   (P ractice is on Tuesdays 4 to 5; information  here ).

Readers and greeters are always welcome.  Please  contact Tina at  teampetrich@gmail.com  to sign up.

It's not too late to join the Children's Choir. Practice on Thursdays 4 to 5, information  here.

Junior High News

A reminder that students for whom a permission form was submitted may sign themselves out at the end of class, but all students must still be signed in by an adult.  Thank you!

Our Junior High students are encouraged to participate in the 2019 Maryknoll Student Essay Contest on "Courageous Missionaries."  Details at www.MaryknollSociety.org/Essay.

Parent volunteers are needed at each class, since there must always be at least two adults present - and i t's fun to learn about our faith together!   Please consider joining us for at least one class this year - or even becoming a catechist aide assisting on a regular basis.  You can use  the google doc to sign up for a class  here  or tell the catechist when you sign your child in.

St. Joseph Notre Dame High School Open House This Sunday

Don't miss our high school's annual Open House Sunday, October 20 from 3:00 pm to 5:30 p.m.   All prospective families are invited to learn about curricular and co-curricular program offerings and explore the campus. In addition to the Shadow Visit program, the Open House is a great way to get to know the SJND community.  Enjoy a variety of breakout sessions, campus tours, and performances by the Visual and Performing Arts department.  For more information or to RSVP click www.sjnd.org/openhouse.
Sacrament Preparation - Mass & Dinner Oct 26; Class Nov 3

Returning second graders  and older students in their second year of preparation will attend the 5pm Mass on Saturday October 26, followed by a potluck dinner in Notre Dame Hall (high school cafeteria entered from Lafayette Street).  Please sign up for the potluck here

The "Growing Up Catholic" Sacrament Preparation classes begin Sunday November 3 in Notre Dame Hall.  (10:45 to 11:45am; remember to change your clocks since Daylight Savings Time ends at 2am that morning.)  Parents or guardians come with your children, to teach them the lesson for each week.  Workpages will be provided for each child, and guides for their parents.  If desired, you can view the weekly guides in advance on our parish website at http://sjbalameda.org/page/guc/.

If you have not yet picked up your Gospel Weeklies through November 10, see me during CFF classes on Sundays, or contact me at afourre@sjbalameda.org to arrange to get them from the Parish Office. The Weeklies for November 17 through January 12 will be handed out on November 3.

Complete Sacrament Preparation schedule is available here .
Congratulations Cross Country!

St. Joseph's CYO Cross Country team has been having a great season.  In addition to St. Joseph Elementary School children, runners include Children's Faith Formation students Chloe Vital, Ethan Luge, Izzy Rogers, Jayla Banaria, Kayla De Leon, Lars Petersen, Lilly Vital, Ricky De Leon and Sabine Lee, whose participation has been valuable to the success of the team.  The last event of the season will be the All Diocese Championship Meet at Alameda's Crown Beach at 5pm Friday October 18.  Good luck to all!

A reminder CFF students are eligible to participate in Cross Country each Fall and/or Track in Spring if they have completed one year of faith formation here or elsewhere.  Registration and fees are through St. Joseph Elementary School; information here.
Parish Survey - Help Plan Our Future

St. Joseph's Pastoral Council asks you to take a few minutes today to complete the Parish Survey.  Help determine the future of our parish.  Children 13 or older are encouraged to participate also, since they will be the future of our Church.  Deadline October 27.

Complete the survey online here.

Special Religious Education

Children's Faith Formation strives to accommodate special needs of children with developmental differences, but for some, a large classroom environment does not work.   For those who would benefit from spiritual formation designed especially for children with developmental disabilities, we're pleased to announce that a SPRED (Special Religious Education) group is forming at St. Barnabas for children age 6 to 10, starting October 17.  Download information here

Safety Information

Due to the large number of students and the busy parking lot, parents must sign their children into their classrooms before class each morning and sign them out at the end of class.  Junior high students may sign themselves out if the parent has signed a release.
No food or beverages are allowed in the school building (Learning Center or classrooms), so please have your child finish any snacks before entering.
More information here.
