Children's Lovely Response to Their Friend's New Leg
"Is that your new pink leg? Wow!" says one little girl when her 7-year-old classmate shows up on the school playground with a brand new prosthetic leg.
The children gather excitedly around their friend Anu to examine her cool new leg. When Anu starts dashing around the playground, the other children run to keep up with her. One little girl grabs Anu's hand and they strut around in step together.
Imagine if we all could treat adjustments to disabilities the way the children in this British Midlands school did: The one affected proud of how he or she is getting along with the help of some special tools and technologies. The others fascinated with how well their friend is managing and eager to share in the phenomenon. The "disability" itself just a part of life that in no way whatsoever dampens anyone's "ability" to have a grand time on the playground.
