First Children's Mass of the Year This Sunday

Join us this Sunday, October 3, on the steps of the Cathedral 10 minutes before our Noon Mass for our first First Sunday of the Month Children's Mass! Our faith formation children will be processing into the Cathedral with icons of St. Francis of Assisi and St. Kateri Tekakwitha, patron saints of our care for creation. They will then be seated with their families. During the Presentation of the Gifts our children will be invited to bring forward their prayers of thanksgiving to God for the gift of creation which they worked on as part of our first faith formation sessions this past Sunday. Please ask your children if they have that on hand! Our dismissal from Mass will include a Procession to our Cathedral Kitchen Garden where Sandra and other garden volunteers will help us plant some peonies and understand how the "fruit of the earth and work of human hands" nourishes our souls and feeds the hungry. Please accompany your child(ren) in the procession.

We have reserved several pews for faith formation families in our physically distanced seating section of the Cathedral if you prefer to be seated further apart from those outside your household. Please just e-mail Theresa or Caroline Okello. Be advised that masks are required for all in attendance at any Mass at St. James Cathedral and that all staff are fully vaccinated. If you are not able to join us at Mass please feel free to meet us on the corner of Marion and Terry at 1:00pm.

Pickup Faith Formation Books this Sunday

We will be at the Faith Formation office (Cathedral Place, 803 Terry Avenue) this Sunday before and after the 10:00am and Noon Masses with books for all those who are registered for Children's Faith Formation. We have Finding God books for those in pre-K through sixth grades. We have Catholic Children's Bibles and materials for those in sacramental preparation. And we have Anointed in the Spirit for our High School confirmation candidates. (Seventh graders, I've got different books for you after the Christmas). Please let us know if this Sunday will not work for you and we can make alternate arrangements.

Angels, Angels Everywhere!

Yesterday (September 29) the Church celebrated the Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, the Archangels. Happy name day to all those named Michael, Michelle, Gabriel, Gabrielle, Raphael, and other related names! Buon onomastico! And on Saturday, October 2, we will mark the memorial of the Holy Guardian Angels. If you're not familiar with the Prayer to a Guardian Angel it is wonderful to share with your children. We even have a scavenger hunt for Angels in St. James Cathedral. See how many you can find together with your children on Sunday!
