Palm Sunday and A Walk Through Holy Week/Agape Dinner

Dear Families,

What a beautiful week so far! A fantastic Palm Sunday hearing the story of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem which led us into the events of Holy Week. Last night we did A Walk Through Holy Week around our campus and heard the stories of

-when Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey on Palm Sunday, and we followed him singing Hosanna and waving palms.

- when Jesus was told to quiet the crowd and he replied, "I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out.”  and we laid Hosanna rocks on the sidewalk,

-when Jesus turned the money changers' tables over in the temple and we took a coin to remind us to love and invite all people into our church,

-when Judas decided to betray Jesus to the Romans, and we thought about who we may have betrayed, taking a ribbon, asking for forgiveness and tying it to the Mercy Tree (the magnolia)

-when Jesus shared the last supper with his disciples, gave them a new way to remember him in the bread and wine, and washed the disciples feet and we took a strip of linen and tied it on a friend to remind us to serve others as Jesus served.

-when Jesus prayed in the garden, and was scared and suffering, and we wrote our prayer for someone or some place that might be suffering or for what we are scared,

-when Jesus was arrested, mocked, and hung on a cross to die, and we paused ......and sang Were You There When They Crucified My Lord.

Then we entered Ellis Hall to enjoy a wonderful Agape meal with each other and imitated Jesus as we washed one another's feet.

Tonight will be the Maunday Thursday service in the church, Friday will be the Good Friday service, labyrynth walking, and a Stations of the Cross walk around the neighborhood. Saturday will be the Easter Vigil in Piedmont Park. And Sunday, Jesus Christ is Risen, Alleluia, Alleluia! Don't forget to bring an Easter basket for the Easter Egg Hunt, flowers to flower the big cross, and make sure the kids notice the "risen" Alleluia banner we made on Shrove Tuesday up on the railing!

Many of you will be away on Spring Break the following week, and the church staff will be taking a break as the church is closed until the next Sunday.

Easter blessings on you all if I don't see you! I feel blessing to walk this journey of love with each of you.

Peace,

Kathy

VBS is one of the best week of the year for kids attending and teens who are leading. So much good stuff happens when we have more time to dive deeper into the stories and explore them through multiple learning styles. It is also one of the few times that young kids spend a lot of time with teens at their church. They get to know them, they look up to them and then when they see them acolyting or reading, they want to be like them.

Sign up now for your kids and if you can volunteer for a day or two or the whole week, we need you! Grandparents are welcome too!

Please find the link below to sign your child up for VBS and if needed, Aftercare.

Easter Vigil in Piedmont Park

Saturday, April 4, 6:00pm

The Promenade

Join us at Piedmont Park Promenade for an Easter Vigil with Jazz, singing praises in creation, and kids shakers/tamborines to shake at the glorious welcoming of the resurrection. Let the parking attendant know you are with All Saints - we have paid for 50 spots for cars, walk/bike/scooter, or take Marta. Below is a map of the park.

Easter Egg Hunt

Don't forget to bring your Easter basket on Easter Sunday! We will say Alleluia, Christ is Risen! and then head to the courtyard to wait until both services are out. Infants - PK will then proceed to the playground to hunt one egg of each color (4th and 5th graders will be there to help guide you), and K - 3rd grades will go with Luke up to the Attic to hunt. We will need 2 or 3 of those parents to help Luke, but all are welcome to come up and see the happiness!

If you can help in the Attic, email Kathy

Animal Meeting

Sunday, April 12

10:20am - 11:05 am

While you attend the Annual Meeting of the church during Formation, your kids can bring their favorite stuffy to our Animal Meeting. We will introduce our stuffies to each other, have a "social hour" sharing popcorn and a movie with each other. Make sure they bring their stuffy, but I will have extras in case you forget.

These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

We take a break this Sunday for Easter and I wish you all the wonder and joy of that glorious day!

The church will be closed until the following Sunday when we will resume our gathering. Sometimes that Sunday is a little low as some people are traveling back from their Spring Break, but we can gather and share how your family walked through Holy Week and Easter. What traditions do you have or new things you added this year? What was meaningful for you and what was meaningful for your kids? Here are some videos that tell the story for kids.

The Story of Easter by Saddleback Kids a favorite of the kids. Tells the stories from Palm Sunday all the way to Pentecost. There are also shorter ones of each of the substories if you want to explore.
