INTRODUCING: "Stories from the Flock"

I am beginning a new project called "Stories from the Flock" - a series of short letters that share moments when God's presence was felt in a real and personal way. These stories celebrate the times when God has shown up in our lives - sometimes in quiet ways, sometimes in powerful ones.

Each letter will be shared after events where our youth are present, as a reminder that God is always at work among us and through us.

When the Rain Came Down

The evening began with laughter echoing across the courtyard as families gathered for Good Shepherd's Annual Pumpkin Carving and All Hallows' Eve service. Tables were set up and families leaned close around them - scooping, cleaning and carving their pumpkins with care.

When done, everyone carried their glowing jack-o'-lanterns to the outdoor chapel. One by one, they were lit.

And then - just as we started to pray the "Our Father" - the heavens opened.

No one ran for cover right away. Voices still lifted - praying through the downpour, their words mingling with the rhythm of the rain. It was a moment no one could have planned but everyone would remember.

Even one of the youth smiled through the raindrops and said, "Remember that one time when we were all together and it rained on us like this? That was so much fun."

Somehow, the rain made it all the more sacred. The puddles, the laughter, the soaked pumpkins whose candles still flickered stubbornly through the storm - all of it was holy in its own way.

God was there - in the rain, in the laughter, in the prayer that refused to stop.

Sunday School 2025-2026

We’re excited to welcome children back for another joyful year of learning, growing, and discovering God’s love together!

Sunday School resumes on September 7 during the 10:00 a.m. service. Children will begin in church with their families and be invited to follow the banner to their classrooms after the opening portion of worship. All children age 3 through 5th grade can participate.

We’ll celebrate the new season with fun activities, new friends, and warm welcomes from our teachers—and there might even be a few surprises along the way! Let’s make this a great start to the year!

Click button below to register.

Sunday School Teachers and Assistants: This is a wonderful opportunity to get to know the younger members of our church family. Join a team of dedicated Christian educators. You will be scheduled every few weeks or as often as you wish. Curriculum and materials are provided. Training is in August. All volunteers who work with children will need to complete Safe Church Training.

Kids in the Courtyard: Volunteers are needed to make lemonade before the 10:00 service and then serve it following the service. Lemonade mix and snacks are all provided. Training is available upon request. Ideally we would like a team of volunteers so you only have to serve every 4 - 6 weeks.

Lobby Greeter: Sits in the Church Office on Sunday mornings from about 9:45 am until the children leave Sunday School. (You can watch the service on livestream on the office computer.) Greets families taking the children to the nursery. Informs teachers that its time to take the children to church. Training provided! Frequency is up to you. Once a month or once a week...

Faith at Home is a regular feature of this newsletter, suggesting ways that your family can develop strong faith traditions in your home.

7 Essential Practices

There are 7 essential practices that you can implement into your life and home so you can thrive in your walk with Christ. Some of these, are part of your daily routine, while others are more seasonal.

The daily practices we call THE BIG 3. They are PRAY, BIBLE READING, and FAITH-TALK. The other four (WORSHIP, CHRISTIAN RESOURCES, SERVICE, MISSIONS) may be more weekly or seasonal, however there's nothing stopping you from practicing all of these on a daily basis.

It can get quite complicated, because for you it may mean giving attention to the 7 ESSENTIAL PRACTICES for yourself personally, with your spouse, and with your children. It requires a mindset that saturates all of your life - like that of Deuteronomy 6

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.  These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.  Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates."
