Children's Ministry Newsletter - October

Dear Families,

Below you'll learn about our September adventures and all that we have planned for October and beyond. Thank you for sharing your children with us!

September Highlights

September was a busy month for our Children’s Ministry! We kicked it off with 4th and 5th Grade Acolyte Training, Prayers for Kindergartners, 3rd Grade Bible Retreat, and a 5th Grade Swim!

The following week, the K-5th graders, together with the help of the A.W.E. Ministry, began crafting a piece for our annual Sacred Worth Art Show. Because this year’s theme was Love Your Neighbor, our children built houses, libraries, radio towers, and more, and combined them into one large neighborhood.

Finally, we all pitched in to make that beloved community a reality by serving together on Christ Church Cares Day, where we packed 200 disaster relief hygiene kits for UMCOR!

Meanwhile, in Faith Formation, the PreK began the month with a show-and-tell of what the Bible is and how it differs from any other book. They got to look at different Bibles for different ages and talked about how special its contents are to Christians. PreK and Elementary both began their dive into the Old Testament, exploring through hands-on activities, such as painting a 'Creation mural', and storytelling. We are so proud of the ways our children are growing in Spirit and in love, and we can’t wait for all that’s in store this year!

Want to Join the Fun?

We are seeking 5+ adults to serve as Sunday morning, elementary Faith Formation leaders. Please prayerfully consider serving with us twice a month. Training is provided. For more information and to get connected, please fill out this form. If you are unable to serve this year, please reach out to a friend and invite them to consider this opportunity.

October Events

Trunk or Treat and Community Fun Night is Friday, October 30! We hope you'll join us for this annual fun and festive event. You can sign up to decorate a trunk here!

We still need lots of candy! Candy drop-off bins are located in the Gathering Hall near the Front Desk and inside Door 8.

Acolytes Needed!

4th and 5th graders - We’d love for YOU to be an Acolyte and carry on this sacred and tender tradition. Training is available. If you are interested in learning about this special ministry, contact Jamie Lovett.

IMPORTANT - Photo Release

Please fill out this brief photo release form for 2026-2027, which would allow Christ Church United Methodist to include photos and/or video of this youth participating in church activities on its website, newsletters and/or promotional material, including but not limited to official CCUM social media accounts. NOTE: It is our policy never to use full names with photos of children/youth. Photo release form link here.

Reminder! New Check-In Process

As of September 20, we removed paper check-in and moved entirely to digital check-in kiosks. Digital check-in is for all children, whether they are attending toddler Faith Formation or K-2nd Children’s Worship.

A Note for 5th Grade Families

5th graders are no longer permitted to self-dismiss. All 5th graders must be picked up by a youth or adult with that child’s Guardian Tag. Guardian Tags are printed each time a child is checked in via a kiosk.

For questions regarding K-5th grade check-in and pickup, contact Max Childers at max@ccum.net. For questions regarding Birth-PreK check-in and pickup, contact Linda Hess at lhess@ccum.net.

Save the Date!

We invite you and your family to A God Like You, a Christ Church United Methodist Kids' Advent Event. On Sunday, November 29, from 12:30 - 2 pm, join us for food, worship, prayer, and play as we celebrate the beginning of the Advent season! Together, we’ll wonder about the awesomeness of incarnation and marvel at a God who wants to move, act, and live with us. Registration will open at the end of the month.

Coming Up This Month in Faith Formation

Pre-K's will continue through the Old Testament, hearing about the story of Joseph and then focusing on Moses for 3 weeks.

K-5th will also continue their way through the Old Testament, focusing on the stories of Noah, the Tower of Babel, and Abraham.

September - October Key Verse Memorization

Every two months, our K-5th graders are invited to memorize a new Scripture verse which ties into their Faith Formation study for the month. This verse can be recited at any time to one of our Faith Formation leaders for a chance to pull a prize from our treasure chest!

Mark 12:30-31 (The NRSV Children's Bible)

“‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these."

Children's Ministry Substitutes Needed for All Ages!

Want to hang out with our kids but don’t have a season to commit? No problem! Children’s Ministry is seeking substitutes willing to step in occasionally, depending upon need. In particular, substitutes are needed for our infants-PreK and Children’s Worships rooms.

  • Interested in Children’s Worship (grades K-2nd, takes place during 9am-11:15am worship): Contact Max Childers
  • Interested in serving with our infants-PreK: Contact Linda Hess

Other Ways to Help!

Want to help with CCUM Children’s Ministry but don’t feel comfortable in a classroom? No matter what your gifts or interests are, we’re ready to have you on board! We currently have need of volunteers for tasks such as classroom plant care, re-inflating basketballs, and decorating bulletin boards. Reach out to max@ccum.net to get connected.
