Books We Recommend

Don't forget to check out the booklists on our Recommendations page!

Ita Recommends:

The Rare Bird by Elisha Cooper

The Rare Bird is a rare bird indeed! As he flies “all around his world” his imagination takes flight with him. But at the end of the day, he snuggles into the lap of his “little feeder” and listens to stories of other animals. What will this rare bird become next? With lovely, humorous, pencil and watercolor illustrations throughout, it’s a story to spark the imagination and to be read again and again.

Alicia Recommends:

Avery and the Fairy Circle by Rowan Kingsbury

In this graphic novel, Avery and her family have moved to a new home and she’s feeling kind of lonely. When she goes out to explore the forest behind their new house, she accidentally becomes really small and runs into a fairy! Birch, the fairy, agrees to help her get back to full size if she agrees to help him find plants for his family. The illustrations of their adventures are absolutely gorgeous and cozy, reminding me a little of “Animal Crossing”. They run into forest creatures, spending the day dancing and eating pie with Birch’s family. I loved the atmosphere of this book as well as the themes of family, friendship, home, and exploring the world around you with a sense of wonder. Great for younger kids dipping their toes into reading on their own and graphic novels.
