Touch-a-Truck Event

Saturday, September 23rd from 12-3pm for children of all ages


Come to Foschini Park and explore all things trucks! Kids can sit behind the wheel, take pictures and learn about police cars, fire trucks and more!

Foschini Park is located at 278 River Street in Hackensack.

Registration is not required.

Bluey Family Trivia Night

Monday, September 25th at 6:30pm for all families


Test your knowledge of everything related to the TV show, Bluey! We will have refreshments, prizes and more! All children must be accompanied by caregivers. Teams should be 2-6 people. Registration is required here.

Meet a Local Children’s Author

Thursday, September 7th at 5pm

for children of all ages


Meet local author Jaime R. Perez! He will be reading his book, Soapbox Kids, and will have signed copies of his book available for purchase.

Registration is not required.

Barks & Books: Read with Jasper

Tuesday, September 19th at 3:30pm

for children of all ages


Meet our newest therapy dog, Jasper!  Jasper is a sweet Australian Shepherd/Husky mix and loves to listen to stories. This event will take place indoors.

Registration is not required but is suggested here for those that wish to receive an email reminder the day of. 

Middle School Lock-In

Friday, September 29th from 6-8pm

for grades 5-8


All students in grades 5-8 are invited to attend this late night event. You can play Roblox on our computers, work on fun craft projects, play GaGa Ball (which is kind of like Dodgeball in a pit), play board games and more! Snacks will be served.

Signed permission slips are required and can be picked up in the Children’s Room starting on September 5th.

Physical copies will be available for pick-up in the Children's

Hispanic Heritage Fiesta

Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 2-3pm

for all ages


Come celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Johnson Public Library with food, music and dancing.  Learn about different Hispanic and Latino cultures.

This program is open to everyone.

Homework Helper

For grades K-6


Be paired up with a teen volunteer for one-on-one homework or reading assistance. Please keep in mind that the number of available spaces is dependent on how many volunteers we have in the program. Caregivers can register here to get their child started. 


If you are in grades 7-12 and would like to be a Homework Helper volunteer, please fill out an application.

Monthly Activity Kits for Kids

Available for pick-up in the Children’s Room during library hours - for children of all ages


Every month we will feature a different craft kit, available for pick-up on a first come, first served basis every Monday.

RED DE APOYO FAMILIAR: Grupo de Apoyo para padres

Sábado, 16 de septiembre de 2023 a las 2:30pm


Conéctese con otros padres de habla hispana con niños en edad escolar. Los participantes pueden hablar sobre las responsabilidades de ser padres, compartir ideas, sentimientos y experiencias en un ambiente de apoyo mutuo. 


Temas que abordaremos en el grupo:

  • Diferencias entre nuestra infancia y la de nuestros hijos. (Uso de tecnología)
  • Cómo lidiar con el idioma y la necesidad de comunicación.
  • Adaptación a una sociedad intercultural.
  • Estar lejos de la familia a la hora de la crianza de nuestros niños.
  • Otras inquietudes que surjan por parte de los participantes.


Este programa será en español dirigido por la Asociada Bilingüe del Departamento de Niños, Ana Esposito. No es necesario inscribirse.


Spanish Parents’ Group

Saturday, September 16th at 2:30pm

for Spanish-speaking parents


Connect with other Spanish-speaking parents of school-aged children. Participants can talk about the responsibilities of parenting, share ideas, feelings and experiences in an environment of mutual support.

This group is facilitated in Spanish by Bilingual Children’s Library Associate, Ana Esposito.

Registration is not required.

Weekly programs will run from Tuesday, September 5th through Saturday, October 21st.

Sensory Free Play

Mondays at 10am for ages 0-5



Join us for this free, unstructured play time! We will have tubs and bins filled with wonderful things to touch and experience. This program will take place indoors. Registration is not required.

Crafternoon

Mondays at 3:30pm for grades K-6


We will be exploring different crafts every week with Mr. Gavin! This program will take place in the Children’s Room.

Registration is not required but supplies will be given out on a first come, first served basis.

Music & Movement

Tuesdays at 10am for ages 3-5


Sing and dance at our music and movement time for children and their caregivers! This program will take place in the library’s auditorium.

Registration is not required.

Story Time

Wednesdays at 10am for ages 3-5


Join Ms. Mari in the Children’s Room for this special story time for toddlers featuring fun songs, stories, flannel activities and a take-home craft!

Registration is not required but crafts will be given out on a first come, first served basis.

Video Game Club

Wednesdays at 3:30pm for grades 3-6



Drop by and play some video games in the library’s auditorium!

No registration is required.

Baby Lap Time

Thursdays at 10am for ages 0-2


Join Ms. Mari as we sing songs and rhymes for infants and babies! This program will take place indoors.

Registration is not required.

Bilingual Story Time

Saturdays at 10am for ages 0-5 (we will not be meeting on September 9th)


Join Ms. Ana in the Children’s Room as we sing songs and read books in English and Spanish.

Registration is not required but craft supplies will be handed out on a first come, first served basis.

Intermediate Guitar Classes

for ages 8-17


Saturdays, September 16 - October 21, 2023

11am-12pm


Guitar classes are open to children and teens ages 8 to 17. Acoustic guitars will not be provided. Some knowledge of guitar playing is required for the intermediate class.
