Grace and peace to all of you: friends and neighbors,
All my cautions about keeping a reasonable pace go unheeded… by ME! Last weekend was wonderful, but loaded up with too many good options! Sunday evening after Sundays@5, 13 of us attended the Virginia Symphony Tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr at Calvary Revival Church in Norfolk. Jeannie DeDominick was playing violin with the symphony so we even knew one of the performers. The concert was a tremendous blessing.
The next morning, Lissie+ and Mal Higgins, and I attended a prayer meeting at Grace Episcopal Church in Norfolk in memory of MLK. It was powerful couple hours of sharing. Members of Grace were sharing their own encounters with racism and Jim Crow. They opened my eyes to lie struggles I would never face even today.
This weekend we have our normal schedule of Sunday services and teaching. I’ll be in the Gathering and 5:00 and Lissie will preach in the church at 8 and 10. It’s my turn for the adult forum at 11:15 where we continue to tackle Bible study of Ruth. Middle School and High School classes also continue.
On Sunday evening at 6:10, I’m taking High School pilgrimage group to All Saints' for our first combined session of preparation for the June trip to Ireland.
Put the following on your calendar: Jan 29 - Annual Meeting; Feb 5 - order Super Bowl Subs, Young Historians Valentines; Feb 11 - Wine Tasting fundraiser; Feb 12 - Guest preacher: Antipas Harris; Feb 18 - Healing of the Soul workshop; Feb 21 - Shrove Tuesday pancake and sausage supper; Feb 22 - Ash Wednesday for children and for adults (4 services).
Tonight we have Wednesday programs with supper and Kipper+ will talk about healing prayer. Come out tomorrow evening from 6-7:30pm to join us for Young(ish) Adults and Families Thursday Night Dinner kick-off. We will have Panera soup and salad for the adults and pizza for the kids. Childcare is provided. We will spend some time getting to know each other and connect. If you miss this one, we will meet on the first and third Thursdays of each month.
Think we have enough going on?
See you Sunday.
