Dear Friends,
Darden Purrington "hit the ball out of the park" last Sunday with a terrific sermon at 10:30. This graduating high school senior is headed to the Coast Guard Academy in just a couple weeks. Her reflections helped us understand how God has been present in her life, at ODEC and everywhere else. Good words for us to hear for those times when we might feel alone or abandoned. Her sermon is posted on YouTube and the text is attached to this CHIMES.
Also, Sundays@5 got off to a great start Sunday. We had 52 people for this first week. Wonderful, spirited worship in a casual setting with food following hit the mark. Join us this Sunday and every week from now through Labor Day weekend.
On Sunday, 16 of us head to Ireland after the 8:00am service for the J2A Pilgrimage. 12 youth, 3 mentors and I get on the OLDDO bus right after church and drive to Dulles to catch an afternoon flight to Dublin. We will blog daily... coming to you in emails and posted to our web site and Facebook. Keep us in prayer.
At the 8:00am service, we will also recognize and commission 3 graduates for Education for Ministry (EfM). These faithful ones have worked through four years of serious study in Scripture, theology, Church history, ethics and how to apply all that to daily life. Congratulations to, and thanksgiving for, Mary Poteet, Jo Bach, and Barbette Timperlake.
This Saturday is our monthly Family Fun - at Botanical Gardens. See more info below, and know there is still time to sign up if you act soon!
One casualty of all that is going on is our planned mission trip to the Covington Boys Home for the first of July. We had very few signed up and decided we will work toward next summer when there will not be a pilgrimage and so much going on.
