It is a WILD WEEK here at ODEC. Vacation Bible School is loud, chaotic, and the most fun, rewarding, and contagious JOY that you could ever wish for. Children, teens, and adults are making new friends and enjoying the old. There is a palpable sense of the “joy of the Lord” that prevails in the music, games, science experiments, and food. I am so happy we are back in what C.S. Lewis described as the “serious business of heaven” which is JOY… and joy that comes from the voices and laughter of young children is as close as we get to heaven.
This Sunday (July 23) the fun continues. In our 10:00 service, we will again try something new (that of course is old). So that everyone spends at least some of their worship time in the old style, we will bring copies of the Book of Common Prayer and use that rather than a liturgy printed in the bulletin for the next month (other than July 30 when Bishop Susan is with us and we don’t own enough prayer books for all the people we expect!). Especially if you are new to The Episcopal Church and its prayer book, this will be a helpful exposure. Don’t miss. I’ll be preaching at all three services.
After the 10:00 service I will lead some discussion and teaching about the Episcopal Church back in Canterbury. Kipper deGavre will be teaching about healing prayer ministry in Salisbury.
Be sure to set apart Sunday, 30 July to be here for the Bishop’s visit at 8:00am and 10:00am. It will be a great day for Old Donation as we celebrate those who are praying God’s strengthening of the Holy Spirit for their ministry among us. We will have a special reception following the service.
We are loving your input to our worship and formation survey. It helps us continue to focus and improve what we do. See below from Lissie+ about Sunday, 6 Aug opportunity for more input into young children’s formation and children’s chapel. Saturday, 12 August at 10:00am Bob+ and John Sherman will do some training for lectors and chalice bearers for experienced and brand new members. Look for further information and changes.
See you this weekend. Say your prayers for those on the prayer list below and for a blessed conclusion to this wonderful week of VBS.
