Second Sunday after Christmas

Weekly Chimes

January 1, 2020
Happy New Year!!  I hope you are enjoying a restful morning with family or friends on this first day of the new year - which is also the 8th day of Christmas. 8 maids a milking is not on my gift list. Today, Chris and I are well satisfied with 8 football games, the Rose Bowl parade, and some FaceTime with grandkids.
The Christmas season concludes this coming Sunday. On the 12th day of Christmas we will hear the gospel account of the visit of the Magi to Bethlehem and "chalk the doors" as a sign declaring our open hospitality for 2020. You will receive copies of the short liturgy in church which you can then repeat at your homes, a traditional way to mark the Feast of the Epiphany, Monday, January 6. I will be preaching in the Church and Genevieve will preach in the Gathering.
We are beginning another parish-wide "Bible Challenge" in January. For the season of Epiphany, we are hoping each of you will do daily reading in the Gospel according to John. Each day there will be emails with a short Scripture assignment and weekly we will have reflections that will be followed up in Sunday School. I will give a preview of John's Gospel in class on Sunday at 9:30.
See you Sunday!
Merry Christmas,
