Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Weekly Chimes

Fall is finally... here? I'm not counting on too much, but it is October and the temps look to be finally moving downward. Our campus is busy today with Yom Kippur worship and a break the fast meal for our Jewish friends in Tucker Hall. They have done a beautiful job of making our space appropriately reverent for their celebration. The sounds of singing in the hall are blessings whenever I venture into the kitchen for more coffee.
Last Sunday's Feast of St. Francis was once again a day of joy and thanksgiving. Surveying our yard full of members and your pets is pure fun. We didn't have any horses this year, but we did have SNAKES... and lots of love.
This Sunday is our annual "Parochial Feast Day" as we celebrate the long history of our parish. Historic Traditions has an ice cream social planned following the 10:30 services. We will have various members in Colonial attire and use some prayers to give thanks for 382 years of God's faithfulness and our response. These ODEC feast days have even more significance as we think about Mission and Ministry. We recharged with being faithful stewards of all God has blessed US with for the continuation of our sacred responsibility. We want to do our best at being ambassadors God's grace and love for Virginia Beach and the world. Come Sunday and celebrate our big day! (Besides, there is ice cream!)
Sunday will be our first week for our occasional class on Ministry of the Baptized, which will start at noon. It is a three session teaching and discussion on the roles each of us have as true "leaders" in Christ's ministry. I like to say that EVERY Christian has gifts for ministry and can lead in their own way. If you want to learn why and how, let me know and we can include you in this series (10/13, 11/3 and 11/17).
Sunday evening I will be joining EYC and Summer Johnson at 6:00 to help the group work out "Community Rules" and a list of ideas for the groups outings this coming year. Grades 6-9 meets weekly. Starting out the year always requires some setting of common understanding. If you are in the age range, come and join us to help get everyone on the right page and plan some fun and enriching events for the year.
Saturday, Megan Wilson and I take the bus to Washington National Cathedral for the annual acolyte festival. Usually 1,000 acolytes are in the procession!! Pray for safe travel and a day of blessings.
Finally, mark your calendars for Monday evening at 7pm for Thirst, our group that meets on the second Monday of the month to talk about the faith questions we have that we never knew how to ask. We'll meet at Pleasure House Brewing this time, owned by our own Alex and Drew Stephenson who have offered to provide pizza for us as well. All are welcome, so come out for some good discussion and drinks!
Shalom, Salaam, Peace...
