Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Weekly Chimes

Back to normal and it feels good! Dozens of "high-fives" began the day as our Day School opened the Fall season. College football was on last weekend and NFL starts tomorrow. Life is good.
And it is BETTER than good because this weekend we are in business in most areas. Sunday school (Christian Formation) classes run 9:30-10:15. Bring your kids and yourselves since we have classes for ages 4-forever. Mother Ashley is kicking off a class she and I will lead in Tucker Hall on the apostle Paul. I will be teaching the 10-11th graders in Alfriend House, giving them an overview of our year culminating with a pilgrimage to Ireland next Summer. The St. Cecilia Choir is back in full swing. I will be preaching in the Church at 8, 10:30 and Paws, Prayers & Praise. Ashley is preaching in the Gathering.
Additionally, our annual Celebration of Ministry runs in the parking lot from 11:30-12:30. Many of our ministries are "on-display" with people proudly showing how we do our best to do God's work. Whether it is worship or study or making a difference in our community, ODEC is a fabulous place to be involved. And there is always FOOD, so hang out with us after church Sunday. (Plus we are trying to see who wants to ride with me to the National Cathedral in DC on Oct 12 for the Acolyte Festival - so come sign up!)
If you want to hear the candidates for bishop present their visions, Friday at 7:00PM at Bruton Parish is one of the "Walk-about" sessions. They are open to all. If you go to the website you can also see it live-streamed.
Tomorrow at noon at Grace Episcopal Church in Norfolk is the funeral for the mother of Chip Saunders. I will be driving the bus, leaving here around 11:15. Saturday at 1:00 at ODEC is the funeral for Heidi Radam. Sunday at 2:00 at ODEC is a funeral for Bobby Watlington.
Please keep watching and preparing for the hurricane. My prayer is for it to steer very soon into the Atlantic. Regardless of storms, we will have church Sunday. But if it does hit hard or your area floods, be safe and cautious. I can walk from home, so we will have church!
